3.0 out of 5 stars Zero dB - Heavyweight Gringos, November 30, 2011
This review is from: Heavyweight Gringos (Audio CD)
Zero dB's debut for Ninja Tune gets remixed, and the result, HEAVYWEIGHT GRINGOS, shows why those are 2 great tastes that go great together, from the wild acid workout of Dave Da Gato's take on "A Pomba Girou" to the breaks on Nery Bauer's version of "Know What I'm Sayin'." Dibaba whacks "Bongos, Bleeps & Basslines" with an electro stick and funkiness falls out. Tony Nwachukwu, meanwhile, takes a shine to "Sunshine Lazy" for a spacy hip-hop journey. There's some deep house on "Te Quiero," courtesy of Peter Kruder, and also on Goetz's take on "Bongos, Bleeps & Basslines," which has some great manipulation of horn textures. Daedelus also takes the house route, though his path with "Sunshine Lazy" goes much more circuitous. Raphael Sebbag takes that same track and warps it into something multi-tentacled and out of this world. Indeed, these gringos wave about some heavy weights.
