This is what I've been waiting for. This mount places the unit at the perfect height and leaves no marks on the windshield or dashboard. It holds steady and does not slide. Works as advertised!! I wish I had bought this unit long ago. Easy to hide and set up and works perfectly. If you've got a radar detector do yourself a favor and buy this unit. It's worth every penny!

I purchased this unit when I discovered that it is illegal to have a radar detector hanging on your windshield in California. Not illegal to have the detector, mind you, just to have it mounted on your windshield.

I am totally satisfied with this unit. I am using it in a Toyota Tacoma, and it is stable under most driving conditions and does not slide around as I feared it might. It has the added advantage of not rattling, which my detector did when mounted with suction cups. I have tested it with some spirited driving on the mountain roads and have not had any problems, your mileage may vary depending on how you define spirited.

It is also a snap to move the unit if you want it out of sight, or to set on the floor if you are in a situation where you don't want/need a radar detector. ( Off road, for example)

This unit is worth the price just to get suction cups out of your life. I highly recommend it.

Simple design and set up. Works very well, doesn't slide around. It is so much better than my windshield mount that came with the Passport.

I purchased this about a month ago for my Passport radar detector that i have in my Toyota Tacoma. So far i have mixed feelings

The Pros:

1) Does a surprisingly good job of not sliding side-to-side on the dashboard, even when i take a sharp corner relatively fast.

2) The suction cup that attaches the mounting attachment to the beanbag seems very high quality and so far has not released.

3) Dont have to deal with my detector falling off the windshield while driving or after sitting in the sun all day.

The Cons:

1) My Tacoma has a relatively shallow dashboard (and slightly slanted) and if i drive on too bumpy of a road the mount will eventually move towards the windshield and the radar detector will vibrate against it. I have found myself having to pull the mount back towards me several times a trip if the road is rough. Highway driving is no problem and if your dashboard is deep or level you probably wouldnt have this issue.

2) I chose to attach my detector to the mounting attachment using the provided velcro. I live in Arizona and have found that the desert sun melts the sticky side of the velcro during the day. I am going to try the other provided tape and if that doesnt work will probably have to wrap a rubberband or something else around the unit to keep it in place.

3) I'm worried that if i leave the beanbag on the dash all the time that you might see a circle as the dash fades from the sun. I try to either put up my window shade or set the unit on the floor if its going to be in the sun all day.

Like i said, overall if have mixed feelings. If i can come up with something to stop the beanbag from vibrating towards the windshield i think i will be happy with it. I'll post and update if i come up with something

I have owned radar detectors for many years and have always disliked mounting them on my windshield for several reasons. First, the flimsy suction cups that come standard with most RD tend to fall off when the temp of the windshield is either very cold or very hot. Second, I dont care for the marks the suction cups leave on the windshield. Third, leaving the cups on is advertising for a thief to break in and steal your RD. I happened to stumble across this heavy weight bean bag mount and decided to give it a try. Basically, the mount consists of a weighted bean bag and a platform to either velcro the RD to or mount with sticky pads. I went with velcro and placed one piece on the bottom of the detector and the other on the mounting platform. The RD fastens nicely to the mount and stays on. The bag is heavy enough that it doesnt move from your dashboard as you accelerate and take turns. I drive a G37x and drive in a spirited manner... for the most past the bean bag stays on the dash. I have had a few occasions where I full throttle the G or take a turn real fast and the bag slide off the dash onto my seat (but with normal to spirited driving... no problem). Overall, great product.... leaves no marks on the windshield, stays in place, and easy to remove and put in truck.

The bottom of the beanbag mount is pretty slick and doesn't provide much grip, especially if the surface it is placed on is not completely flat. I have a problem if I accelerate too quickly the mount slides right of the dash (granted, I like to drive fast). Something to consider about the design is that, yes, it allows some height to be added to the placement of the radar detector - this makes it more top heavy.

I'm pretty disappointed with how smooth the bottom of the unit is, and I don't understand how it is supposed to have any friction to keep it on my dashboard. The best thing going for it is the heavy weight of it, which I assume would do the job for a flat dashboard, assuming this driver were not so keen on acceleration as I.

This is a brilliant idea - a beanbag for your dash with a shiny plastic plate inside and a suction cup mount. Wow, the company that invented this device was pretty darn slick.

I ordered this mount thinking it would be similar to the beanbag mount for GPSs (Garmin Portable Friction Mount), was I surprised when I opened the box, it is way better than those silly mounts.

This is a two-part device, beanbag and suction cup. The beanbag is a very large, heavy round affair. It is about the size and looks like a large ashtray. In the center is the smart piece, a three-inch diameter piece of shiny plastic. This is where you attach the suction cup mount.
Part two is a suction cup device. The base is a very large suction cup with a lever to attach and release the cup (just about like the window suction cups found in Magellan and Garmin GPSs). On top of that cup is a flat platform that can be rotated. To mount the radar detector, you put Velcro on the platform and the bottom of the radar detector. The instructions show a GPS antenna being attached to this part. Smack the radar detector and the suction cup together. Put the suction cup on the beanbag, lift the lever, and the radar detector is now mounted.

If you've ever seen a GPS beanbag mount, this mount is about three times heavier, twice as big around, and much sturdier. The radar detector is going nowhere on my dashboard. I've attached a Cobra radar detector with no problems. I would guess just about every radar detector made would Velcro to this mount.

I wanted a dash-level mount so as not to attach my Beltronics radar detector on the windshield and also increase its effectiveness. The bag stays put on my dash and the velcro works to keep the detector on the mount. It's a little large and bulky but it needs to be in order to stay stable. I have no complaints.

I bought this product to keep my radar detector out of the way of my sunshade and off my windshield. Not to mention it works and looks better than expected! The beanbag base is a little bulky but has enough weight to keep it from sliding during normal driving. I would suspect tho, like anything, if you are going fast enough around a corner it will slide like anything would. The beanbag base is rubber coated to give it that extra gripping power. The actual mechanism that holds the radar detector is made of heavy duty plastic and seems very sturdy. Velcro and double sided tape are included to mount the radar detector to the stand so it is your choice which one you use. The holder can also be move foward or backward on a slant to level the radar detector. So as you can see this is a quality product that seems like it will last for years. I am very impressed with it and would reccomend it to anyone who doesnt want to mount their radar detector on their windshield.

Simple but effective. Easy to use and remove. Does not slide around on my Acura dash. I always take it off the dash in hot conditions. Nicely made and good value.
