5.0 out of 5 stars easiest to read, February 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Hebrew Bible (Hardcover)
I use it for my daily reading in Hebrew, together with the usual tools: The Interpreters Bible, a English/Hebrew Hebrew/English pocket dictionary, Strong's concordance, and the Zuttgart Interlinear. The font is exceptionally easy to read; a sort of arial, but in Hebrew, of course. Well bound too (unlike the Interllnear and dictionary).

It includes a Hebrew New Testament, which is interesting for the echoes of the semetic (whether Aramaic or Hebrew) oral and written documents that preceded the Greek New Testament. You can't help but wonder, with David Flusser and Robert Lindsey, whether the translator has not occasionally recreated the very voice of Jesus. As one progresses into the letters of Paul, written in Greek in the first place, one senses the remove.

Textual variants, referred to by other reviewers, are perfectly up-to-date, but the text sometimes fails to note the deviation. In the Gospel of John the translator often inserts "leaders of" in front of "the Jews" when John fails to do so. When there is a Hebrew idom that can be recovered from the Greek, the translator exercises his perogative so that the Hebrew is sometimes easier to read and understand than the English! The translator also uses the Hebrew Bible when quoting the Old Testament, even when the Septuagint was clearly the source.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hebrew Bible, October 6, 2002
This review is from: Hebrew Bible (Hardcover)
To those who know the Messiah of Israel and can read Hebrew, this is the Packaged Scripture for you. Here it all is in one book just like the old standard, The King James Version. There is a seamless binding of all three parts to what we believers call the Scriptures. The Torah, The Ketuvim, The Neviem, and The Brit Chadasha are all preserved for us in an single book with two ribbons for marking Scripture. The best part is that it is all in Babalonian Hebrew complete with vowel markings for easy reading. Next to a good Torah Scroll, The Hebrew Bible is a must for all you Messianics with a heart for the Father's word in the Father's toung.

Shalom,

Billy Washburn

Hi, if you?re like me then you want to see an item before you buy it. That's why I made a page with lots of pictures of this Hebrew Bible I bought here at Amazon...here is what I think of the bible.

It is great! Fare size font that is very sharp and easy to read. And it has beautiful blue binding.

Well worth it for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinarily good value, March 11, 2009

This review is from: Hebrew Bible (Hardcover)
Without a doubt this edition of the Hebrew Bible offers extraordinarily good value for money! Comprising of both Tanak (the text being that of the Leningrad Codex as published in the Biblia Hebraica Suttgartensia:BHS) and Brit Chadasha (the New Testament in Ivrit, or modern Israeli Hebrew), it was prepared by the Bible Society in Israel for domestic consumption.

What impresses most; however, is not the inclusion of the Brit Chadasha, but the very accessible (and affordable) printing of the standard "academic" text of the pointed Hebrew Tanak. And although the Massora Magna, Massora Parva and Apparatus Criticus of the BHS are altogether absent--which is not necessarily a bad thing for general reading--our edition does include the traditional ta'amei ha-mikra or "cantillation marks" for use within the Synagogue. The typeface is very pleasing to the eye, clear and distinct; the quality of the binding is similarly very good.

In summary this is probably THE best value edition of the Hebrew Old Testament that one can purchase in hardcover. Comparable in quality and features to Aron Dotan's edition of the Leningrad Codex published by Hendrickson's, but significantly cheaper!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price!, April 15, 2008
This review is from: Hebrew Bible (Hardcover)
This Hebrew Bible is certainly a great deal. Hardcover Bible with both Old and New Testaments in Hebrew! I would recommend it for anybody who wishes to own a Hebrew edition of the New Testament. It is affordable and yet still a beautifully bound edition. I am very happy with it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing some things, December 8, 2006
This review is from: Hebrew Bible (Hardcover)
good overall book for the price, yet I was concerned in some of the readings as this translation may be missing a few key phrases from basic bibles. then since i speak hebrew (on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being fluent) about 5 i consider that i know a little bit, but Matthew 6:13 seems to be missing some of the verse. "for thine is the kingdom power and glory forever amen." seems to missing at least from my copy. as it ends with mein hara. which is the first part of the passage. Anyway good over book for the price, not sure what else is missing haven't read the whole thing yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book., December 17, 2002
By
Noah Paul (Connecticut, USA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hebrew Bible (Hardcover)
Contains the word of the Lord God of Israel
both in the Tanakh and the Beyrit Chadash,
as translated into Modern (Israeli) Hebrew.
A real bargain at this price. The only other
'hebrew-only' edition of the Tanakh that
I've found is, of course, BHS, which can
cost upwards of .... This is, of course,
smaller, and lacks the complete BHS critical
apparatus (which I wasn't looking for anyway).
It is a beautiful blue imitation leather
hardcover book with a small but readable
Hebrew font. Highly recommended to the Hebrew
speaker or student or the Jewish believer in
Jesus the Messiah.
