5.0 out of 5 stars This Was The Perfect Jewish New-Year Gift

I was not familiar with the differences between Jewish and Western calendars until my friend made a comment that it was near the end of October and his calendar was almost over. 2.0 out of 5 stars Nice illustrations, poor writing space
I boughts this calendar with the aims of 1. having a Jewish calendar, which may remember me of the usual holidays, both Jew and secular, and 2. to get a nice place to make my calendar notes to be remembered.
On the aesthetic side I was not deceived, Adam Rhine's illustrations are beautiful, and some of them inspiring ones.
But a boring left side column, with...

I bought ths calendar for my Jewish friend who is from the East Coast where he would get a Jewish calendar for free from his local grocery store. I was not familiar with the differences between Jewish and Western calendars until my friend made a comment that it was near the end of October and his calendar was almost over. It was then that I went on a quest for a high-quality Jewish calendar for him. Living in the western U.S. means that there are few if any free Jewish calendars given out in local places of business. This calendar was given as a gift for the Jewish New Year, and it is a beautiful one, full of colorful hand-drawn artwork based on Jewish symbols. My friend was impressed, both that I searched for a Jewish calendar, and also because of the beauty of it. The calendar is a nice large size and is printed on good quality paper.

Also it has great info for celebrations, and the Hebrew months, etc. I will continue to buy this calendar and suggest that my Chrisitan friends also get one. BLessings Alisa

This is a beautiful calendar! This is my second one and my family and I love it. It is also a great conversation piece with its beautiful artwork. We give it a 10 on a scale of 1-10.

But a boring left side column, with absolutely forgettable comments on each page, reduced its width in 2", thus severely shrinking for each day the available space to write, until making it unuseful. It is noteworthy that a big place below the calendar itself of 2" x 8", where those comments usually appear, was not available, occupied by a detailed candle lighting time schedule for 27 cities in the US and Canada. Not very useful for those like me who are living in South America.
Besides that, it DID NOT show most of the secular but traditional holidays usually shown on many other Jewish calendars.
Since these calendars differ so much from the classical ones, such kind of calendars should be advertised as "suited for observant people only".

5.0 out of 5 stars Difficulty Ordering, September 23, 2009

This review is from: Hebrew Illuminations 2010 Wall Calendar: A 16 Month Calendar - 5769/5770 (Calendar)
I only wanted to order five, but I clicked the wrong button, and got only three, and I got charged for mailing. I hadn't realized that the first order went through, so I ordered five more. I don't mind that I have the extra three, but I really mind that I had to pay shipping on the smaller order. How's this for a review1
