More About the Author

Elder Moses Farrar, who turned eighty years young on Monday, December 28, 2009, recently retired as Elder-in-Charge of Fifth Tabernacle in Atlantic City, NJ. Farrar is a member of Temple Beth El, the oldest and largest Hebrew Israelite congregation in the United States.

Elder Farrar has been a faithful and loyal Elder-in-Charge for almost 38 years having served in Brooklyn, New Haven, Rochester, Philadelphia and most recently, Atlantic City.

Moses Farrar was born in Richmond, Virginia, and is the youngest of eight children. At age seven he went to live in the Hampton Roads area, 90 miles southeast of Richmond. Shortly after his arrival there he was selected from among many others in his age group to be trained in printing, where he learned to set type by hand - one letter at a time. In the "old days" a beginner was called a "printer's devil." In 1941 his mother took him to Philadelphia to live. When old enough to enter high school he chose to attend Dobbins Vocational Technical High School where he continued studies in printing. He has worked on the staff of several newspapers and book-making plants in Philadelphia and Virginia. In 1969 he opened his own printing business in Philadelphia, operating it for eight years.

Ordained an Elder of an international Israelite congregation in 1971 (of which he is virtually a life-long member), he has headed congregations in Atlantic City, Brooklyn, New Haven, Rochester and Philadelphia, After moving to Brooklyn in 1976, he again established his printing business there for 15 years.

He is considered by many to be among the leading Biblicists, biblical historians and lecturers, having presented lectures and historical and spiritual seminars since 1980 at colleges and houses of worship of various persuasions. In 1991 Elder Farrar lectured from the stage of the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. The Author was chosen by the Chief Rabbi of his congregation to visit South Africa in 1991, 1992 and 1994 to assist in strengthening the spiritual work of our many associated congregations there. For 15 years he was a member of the religious panel for the training course, "Facilitating African-American Adoption," sponsored by the New York Chapter Association of Black Social Workers' Adoption Service.

Shortly after the death of his beloved wife, Naomi, in September 2004, he moved back to Philadelphia, where he now resides. Farrar is listed in the 2000 and forward editions of Who's Who Among African Americans.

5.0 out of 5 stars The so-called Negro has a Hebrew heritage too, April 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Steven S. Jacob (European Jew) has chosen to inform the general public about an ancient Hebrew heritage, which exist for many West Afrikan ethnic groups. He says on pages 14-15, "We in America tend to associate the word "Jew" and "Hebrew" with White people because of our European cultural conditioning. A trip to the State of Israel would dispel this notion immediately. There you will find Jews of all colors and ethnic backgrounds living side by side. And historically we can read in our own history books on African history that Black Africans, e.g. the Falasha of Ethiopia, were Jews long before Christianity or Islam made an appearance on the scene. "The White man, as is logical of human nature, has written and interpreted history largely from his own point of view."

Steven S. Jacob concludes on pages 16-17, "The history of Israel has been handed down to us mostly from White scholars. As a result, the emphasis has been put on what ties Europe and Europeans to the Middle East. The possibility of a relationship between Black Africa and the Middle East is rarely mentioned."

"The bias in our knowledge of history runs deep. It is reflected, for example, by the fact that little space is devoted to the historic and theological kinship between Christianity and the so-called pagan Greco-Roman religions of 2,000 years ago. It also is reflected by the fact that relatively few books deal with the non-Hebraic ancestry of most White Jews who are descendants of Greeks, Romans, Armenians, Berbers and others who adopted or converted to Judaism during the period of its greatest expansion in the Mediterranean area before the Christian era began. Certainly, few White historians are able to plumb the depths of anguish and despair suffered by Black Africans who, like cattle, once were herded to the Western Hemisphere as slaves."

"No single book can deal exhaustively with any subject so that every facet and opinion is recorded therein. Our book is no exception. It is not written to rehash old viewpoints and biases. It is not to rewrite of White history in Europe or the Middle East. Our purpose among others is to redress what we believe is a long-standing imbalance in the presentation of Black history. We want to introduce you and every reader to a part of Black history which cannot be found in the standard texts and treatises on the subject. Black Americans now are in position as never before in modern history to rediscover, and reclaim if they wish, a heritage which has profoundly influenced world history and mankind: the Hebrew heritage of Black Africa."

I have quoted the majority of Chapter 2, pages 14-17 because I feel that the Soverign Yah (the short poetic name of Yahweh) has purposed the work of Steven Jacobs to fulfill a void which has always been present in historical research, and scientific reality. Steven S. Jacob's message is motivated by the love of Yah [The Spirit of Truth], whose purpose is to redeem the lost sheep of Yisrael (Israel).

Revelation 7:9-10, After this, I looked; and there before me was a huge crowd, too large for anyone to count, from every nation, tribe, people and language. They were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palm branches in their hands; and they shouted, "Victory to our God (YHWH), who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb (Yahoshua)!

This book is a must read for all people. Not only for people of African descent but for all.

As an African American and a Christian, I must say that this book answers so many questions for me. Qhestions that I have had since childhood.

After much searching, digging and asking, and after reading "The Hebrew Heritage of Black Africa" I now know beyond a doubt that we (African Americans)are the people of the book. (The Holy Bible). I could say alot more, but you must read this book for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

"The Hebrew Heritage of Black Africa" is well written, well researched, and easy to read. Please read this book. You will never be the same.

"Know the truth and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32)

3.0 out of 5 stars The Hebrew Heritage of Black Africa, November 29, 2010

It's true that some of the Black race is intertwined into the family of Israel because of Moses. Lets face it, and if you believe in the ancestry of the Bible - we are all related through any one of the Son's of Noah - Ham, Shem or Jappeth. Many people at the time of Abraham, that exited the land of the Chaldees and crossed over the river boundry line were also called noematic Shepherds or Hebrews, the ones who crossed over. The Bible however, talks about a family root catagory. The Bible is the story of the family line and ancestry of Abraham and his children. There is a distinction between family lines if you are a Ismaelite or from the family of Isaac and further on - from the family of Esau or from Jacob? There is a generic term used to call all of the house of Israel Jews. To be called a Jew - you would first have to trace your ancestry back to one of the Son's of Israel named Judah and the same goes if you could trace your ancestry back to anyone of the 12 Son's of Israel, such as Joseph, Dan or Benjamin. Instead they would be named after there heritage or simply called Israelites. It is sometime difficult but Israelites today can trace their line back to the family of Jacob. They have completed DNA on some groups of Blacks and they show simular indicators to the priestly families of Levi, which Moses was a member of. As Christians, we believe that through the blessings of Abraham and the atonement of Christ that all mankind will be blessed who except Christ as their Personal Savior and become Son's of God. All mankind will be grafted into the tree and receive the blessings of Abraham.
