Newell is always good and whilst this commentary is not quite up to the Romans standard it is pretty close. Newell is conservative and dispensational. He handles each verse at a devotional / semi-technical level in the main body of the text. This would be enough to recommend the book. But he also drops down into some of the best technical footnotes you will come across.
My favourite part though is his clear desire to inspire rather than simply inform. His section on Heb 1:1-3 and his description of communicating IN SON has inspired me and many others (that I have shared it with) more that enough to justify the entry price alone.

I stumbled upon this book as well as Romans at a used book store and since he was associated with Moody I thought it had to be good and sound theologically... I was right! Best book on any book of the bible I have ever read! I have gained so much more appreciation and understanding of Hebrews and am only in chapter 3! So great! I am going to be looking for his book on revelations. ps I am a 20 year old undergrad student not a theologian or a professor and I found it to be a great book.

This is a classic that should be reprinted over and over from the hands of a true servant of God...William R. Newell. You can trust anything he writes that he also writes well and his spiritual ensights to Scripture is amazing! I look for anything written by Newell! Check out Romans and Revelation also by him.
