5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!
If listening to salsa makes you happy, then this CD is guaranteed to make you ecstatic. Each song is a masterpiece in itself and the arrangements set the standard for all other salsa songs to aspire too. The arrangements mostly have a 2 or 3 minute intro followed by an off-the-hook chorus which repeats later on in the song. If you love salsa, you won't be able to not...

I enjoy the stories incorporated with the musical sounds. It's a shame that there not on video. It would be candy for the eyes. The songs are very discriptive.I am a Spanish Major student. And was introduced to Willie Colon's music at the University. Enjoyable!

The arrangements mostly have a 2 or 3 minute intro followed by an off-the-hook chorus which repeats later on in the song. If you love salsa, you won't be able to not dance and sing along to this CD. This is probably Willie Colon's best solo album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sophisticated Album, July 12, 2008
This review is from: Hecho En Puerto Rico (Audio CD)
This record is a masterpiece. Through the years I am able to enjoy it
and appreciate it's simple genius. Recorded back in 1994, while Colón
was running for Congress in New York, the record has socio-political overtones while not shoving it down your throat.

The sound is a little smoother than Willie's other projects. Perhaps that's why some hard core fans dismiss this record except for "Idilio".
Some people just didn't get this album because they didn't give it a break. But it's all there and well worth the price of admission.

The lyric content and the arrangements have stood the test of time. "Buscando Trabajo" is about a guy who is pounding the pavement every day trying to get a job and he find that you need to have a Godfather. "Por Eso Canto"is really Willie Colón's reason for being. He explains that singing for the sake of singing is not what it's about and goes to mention all of the causes that motivate his music.

"Cueste lo Que Cueste" is a standard in Latin America. Surprisingly, Colón, a salsero, was able to compete with the balladeers with this song and was quite successful. There are two other love songs that are more than just the "why did you leave me" or "this is what I'm going to do to you in bed" type songs. They are very mature and sophisticated situations like "Desde Hoy" (From now on) where a man painfully accepts that he is on his own and must start anew. "Yo Te Podría Decir" (What could I tell you?) A man so in love that words are just not enough!

"Aguijón" is anothe rone of those Colón street characters a neredowell loser who beats his wife, doesn't attend to his kids and doesn't even listen to his parents. These Colón stories and characters like his famous "Pedro Navaja" (Mack The Knife), "Sīmón" (a gay young man), "Casanova" (Name speaks for itself), "Carmelina" (adolscent bombshell), "Juanito Alimaña" (a thug like Leroy Brown) and many others
that Colón brings to life in his repertoire; give us a glimpse of life
in el barrio and always offer a great moral.

There is no filler in this album I highly reccomend it. Especially if you can appreciate good writing.

Para los fanaticos de la musica de Willie, esta grabación fue una refescante. Toca temas sociales de los latinos.
