Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-5-Set in the mountains of Mexico, the town of Paracho is becoming the center of the country's guitar production. Laufer's book notes the popularity of this instrument in Mexico and around the world and looks at the workmanship, tradition, and importance of this industry for the small town. The narrative sensitively juxtaposes the poverty of Mexican village life with the rich music afforded by these finely crafted instruments. Striking, full-page collage art in bold colors on every page incorporates materials of various textures with local signage, photographs, and bits of confetti from the annual festival in Paracho where guitar makers and players worldwide unite for the love of music.
