Moments of pool party bliss can be found in Hed Kandi's "Beach House," a 2-CD collection of summer dance grooves compiled by Mark Doyle. As with the rest of the Hed Kandi releases, "Beach House" is for the more sophisticated and mature dance music lover, and let it be said that some of the best tracks on ANY of their collections can be found here. Unlike "Disco Kandi" or "Disco Heaven," the tracks (all unmixed) on "Beach House" are a bit more laid back and are suited for relaxing afternoons at the cookout, by the shore, or during a late summer party. The highlights? Zaab and State of Soul's "When I Hold You" is flat-out flawless and best represents the mood and spirit of the "Beach House" series. An inviting melange of spicy guitars and a bold sax set to a disco beat, it's nearly worth the price of this double disc. Another standout on side one is the synth-heavy "Your Day" by Organic Audio. Though not house music in the traditional sense, it is a seductive slice of electropop that has a vague 1980's feel. Yet, I reluctantly give this release just 4 stars because of the second disc, which is still quite good but just doesn't match up to its superior first disc. Late Night Alumni's "Empty Streets" is pretty good, while Louie Vega and Jay "Sinister" Sealee's "Diamond Life" and A Man Called Adam's "Barefoot in the Head" are sure to get nods of approval from anyone within earshot. As of this writing, summer is drawing to its inevitable close, but "Beach House" is solid enough to play at any season, all year round.

5.0 out of 5 stars variety packed into 2 cd's, November 11, 2003
This review is from: Hed Kandi: Beach House 04.03 (Audio CD)
i was a little reluctant to buy the cd, considering i had been a bit disappointed with the first beach house album. i bought the 4.02 album and i have to say i was pretty amazed with that one.. so i thought perhaps 4.03 would be a step forward in the right direction. luckily, this cd was definitley so!

the first cd is definitley more mellowed out, probably stuff you'd listen to while you relax... but the second cd packs more of a punch with the beat. very melodic and groovy with many good selections! lots of piano, saxophones, and guitar.. i especially enjoy julius papp's, "your life."

the one thing i have noticed with most of my hed kandi purchases is that although not all the songs on the compilations are "wow!," they always manage to put several tracks that are absolutely amazing, making the whole purchase worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely intoxicating, June 3, 2004
This review is from: Hed Kandi: Beach House 04.03 (Audio CD)
iv just recently acquired a copy. im not even done absorbing the whole disc1, thats because im outright infatuated with disc2. late night alumni's empty streets, beautiful and bittersweet. glider's riding high, picks you up and soars to the roof of your mouth. volta's never been kissed, oozing with suuugaaaar! papp's your life, releases those endorphins!
this album is not fine exotic chocolate. its the local brand (and spiked with liquor) that youll always love coz it reminds you of youthful emotion.

I heard Hen Kandi music for the 1st time in a trendy disco of southern spain, and it was love at first sight. Went on Amazon and bought this CD mainly for a song, "The whirled you live" that along is worth the price. But the compilation is AWESOME. Great extended mixes, ideal if you want to play with them, great sound, wonderful tracks like "kiss kiss kiss". A MUST! Thanks to the others for rewiewing it as good as I discovered!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kandi does it again!, August 12, 2003

If your already a fan of the Beach House, Stereo Sushi and Disco Kandi series compilations, this one is a must buy! On CD 1, check out tracks 8. Jask featuring Jocie - Surrender Your Love (Jask's Original Mix) and 9. Latin Hustlers featuring Cate - Getaway.

On CD two, you'll want to rewind tracks 3. Glider - Riding High, 4. The Roc Project featuring Tina Arena - Never (Past Tense) and 5. Volta - Never Been Kissed - instantly, although most are good.

A large proportion of the tracks to be found on this album are reminiscent of the earlier Stereo Sushi volumes. If you like your house moody, order this compilation today.

2.0 out of 5 stars Gooey vocals on the first misstep of this excellent series, January 12, 2004
This review is from: Hed Kandi: Beach House 04.03 (Audio CD)
The Beach House series has long been the most popular and successful of Hed Kandi's numerous full-length, unmixed 12"singles collections. The formula remains the same: two dozen tunes over two discs, in equal parts dazzling hits, filler pieces and duds for you to cherry pick.

Beach House 4.03 is their first misstep, lacking memorable tunes that spark a rewind. The summer vibes and light percussive sounds still appear, but a far heavier emphasis on sugary (to the point of gooey-excessive) lyrics clog the stereo. Worst offenders? Ananda Project's "Kiss Kiss Kiss," with that as the chorus and Q-Burns companion piece "This Time." Not to be outdone, there's frilly vocoder itinerary "Getaway,' and an auto pilot Miguel Migs with "Moving On."

Lost in the shuffle, guitar dub "Floating" from DJ Aguy and soft disco number "Follow the Night" via Kaskade manage some respite. On disc two, Etherfox's hard piano stabs and "be-bah-ahp-a-tha" chorus will have you humming for days on "The Whirled You Live."

But that's not much to offer for listeners. Hed Kandi knows how to pick tunes with sun-spotted charm, but in this case an ear for instrumentals would have served better.

Years ago I heard the song "Your Day" by Organic Audio and was never able to find it - until now! I decided to purchase the set based on that soing and a few others I had heard on Pandora Radio (I even now have a Hed Kandi station!). I downloaded the 2 cds onto my iPod for my 90-minute commute to work every day and keep the cds in the office (some of my co-workers have asked to borrow them from me!)....I can't get enough! This compilation is perfect for relaxing poolside, on the beach or even dancing to a few of the tracks. I am already planning a trip to Ibiza, buying a few more cd sets and looking forward to a whole new collection of new (to me) music!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beach house, May 24, 2005
This review is from: Hed Kandi: Beach House 04.03 (Audio CD)
BEACH HOUSE is one of my favorite collections from Hed Kandi (hell I like most of them!). This entry in the series is a memorable one for me. Once again we have house songs with a latin soul to them. Really makes you wish you were on a beach. Don't worry my friend just close your eyes and Hed Kandi will take you there with this release! It has some of my favorite tracks, some really memorable house songs that are perfect for any summer day, or any time!

Etherfox's "The Whirled You Live" pops out right away as a standout. Volta's "Never Been Kissed", The Roc Project and Tina Arena's "Never (Past Tense)" are also great. Fac 15 and Cathi Ogden return again on this compilation with "Blue Skies". Kaskade's "Feeling The Night", Bonnie Bailey's "Safe", Ananda Project feat Hether Jonston on "Kiss Kiss Kiss", are all other great tracks.

So pop it in, close your eyes and let your mind go. Perfect for parties too!

Hed Kandi had a huge summer this year which included five albums and a residency in Ibiza which was awarded "Best New Club Night" by DJ Mag. This year's installment of Beach House is incredible. A great collection of Deep & Soulful tracks that definitely puts a beach vibe going. Standout tracks on the first disc are....well, pretty much all of them! On disc two, all the tracks are very very good, until the second to last track, which is "Diamond Life" By Louie Vega feat. Julie McKnight. They shoul have at least put the MAW version of this song or not put it at all. They should have replaced that song with "Elle" by DJ Gregory. Regardless, its a brilliant album that is definitely worth the purchase.
