Editorial Reviews

Considering today's Red State Blue State dialectic, you'd think Alternative Tentacles with our "San Francisco values" and a Southern-fried party band from Baton Rouge (which translates to "RED stick"), Louisiana would be like oil and wateran assumption that couldn't be more wrong! AT and Dash Rip Rock continue the joint enterprise that began with their twenty-year retrospective Recyclone (Virus 329) in 2005 with Hee Haw Hell, an all new album by the undisputed kings of Southern country punk. Hee Haw Hell blows any stereotypes about Red staters, punks, and country rockers out of the water with the genius of its conceit: it's a country punk opera based onÉDante's Inferno! With spoken parts and good ol' rock-n-roll, Dash Rip Rock tells the story of Donkey's tour of Hell (populated by ghosts of Lynrd Skynrd and hippie jam bands) with Ol' Virg. As if a country-punkified version of a 14th century Italian epic poem isn't over the top, guest stars Mojo Nixon and Jello Biafra among others guarantee that Hee Haw Hell will be a thespian and musical piece de resistance. If you can party to a Southern rock legend AND learn about Dante by osmosis at the same time, then what you got there is called a win-win situation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cow Punk Lives in Hee Haw Hell!, March 13, 2007

Well, it's a concept album. Thank God it's a concept album by a band that does not take it self seriously. This ain't 2112 - once again - thank God! The first time I listened to Hee Haw Hell I thought, " I could live without the freakin' poems. But then I though, "Your missing the concept, dingus, or maybe just the point." Here's the deal - no one else is doing crazy stuff like this. It's Dash and it sounds great. Hee Haw Hell is frequently goofy and sometimes down right juvenile and I would have it no other way. Buy it and go see them live!

I bought it as a gift for my husband who likes Dash Rip Rock. Personally I don't and I would give it 0 stars (not my taste) but my husband says "5 stars". But for the Dash fan this is likely to be the perfect addition to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a hell funny Hee Haw Hell !, March 28, 2007

This album is a masterpiece of southern rock, psycho-rockabilly, and cow punk music. Filled with incomparble senses of humor and fan of wits, not to mention, melodies of tunes are great! I hope if I could go to Nashville or New Orleans, to see DASH'S show!
