Editorial Reviews

Review

Review from other book by this author: "In this definitive English edition we now at last possess an adequate tool for scholarly work on Hegel's philosophy of religion. The translation, accurate and yet readable, is bound to last more than a life time. The introductions provide us with up-to-date information on scholarship and with the best available guide to Hegel's own thought. This edition clearly constitutes the most significant achievement in Hegel scholarship . . . in years." --Louis Dupre, Religious Studies Review --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Hegel's philosophy of religion lectures did not go smoothly. In 1821 he got his ontological proof wrong. In 1824, he revised the proof but got it wrong again. In 1827, two years prior to these lectures; he got it right. His definitive position is represented here and centers, of course, on the subjective self reaching "pure speculative thought". Each lecture is very short and they are presented in proper order. You can digest the data in small bites which is helpful. This truly must be purchased by any follower of Hegel. Highly recommended.
