5.0 out of 5 stars Heidi
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this at age 65 as much or more than I did as a child. It is well written and superbly crafted for a reasonable price.

I never got to listen to it! I had to send back the CD because it wouldn't play. Then, when I got the second CD, it did not play either. I still haven't had time to send the CD's back yet. It is most inconvenient. I think CD's should be tested before they are sent. At least, they should begin to play! Georgann Kates

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tale set in Beuatiful Switzerland for the whole family to enjoy, August 11, 2010

Heidi embraces the sufferings of rejection and the rewards of genuine love.It shows that people do need each other and that we are all capable of forgiveness. I am told the story was built on real life experiences of a Swiss family. The description and characterization is excellent. At times you can smell the smell of the pine trees and visualize the old log cabin of Grandfather. It takes the reader back to the days before electricity and even before telephones, which in itself provides the reader with an understanding of their place in history. I rated with all stars as it brings hope to the lonely and the many who have known rejection.

Great classic story! Well written! My kindergartener and I both love it! It was helpful for her to watch the movie with Shirley Temple before we began reading it, since some of the wording is a bit old-fashioned. But it is definitely a book she will grow into and enjoy even in the years to come. I like the little ribbon bookmark that it comes with, also.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beloved classic, October 12, 2011
Heidi is a simple, heart-warming and beautiful story of a young girl growing up in the Alps of Switzerland and in Frankfurt, Germany the time is never stated, but seems to be late 1800s/very early 1900s). Soft-hearted, honest and forthright and with an intense love of life, Heidi has a transforming effect on everyone.

This is an old-fashioned and simple story. Although perhaps some modern readers may find it "boring," I find it lovely and touching; it was an early-childhood favorite. This is the first time I've re-read it in probably 35 years, and I loved it as much as I did at age 7 or 8.

As usual, Brilliance Audio has done a fine job. Their productions are always top-notch. Ms. MacAdam is an excellent narrator whose gentle and slightly-accented voice is well-suited for this story.

This is a wonderful story about a young girl coming of age in a beautiful and simpler time, and is suitable for children of all age -- and adults, too!

This book was received in excellent condition! I bought it for my niece, who is 11 years of age and an avid reader (but, secretely, I will read it myself, first, before sending it to her for Christmas!).

I read this book when I was much younger and always thought of it as one of my favorites.

I decided to read it again on my Kindle (it's free) and still enjoyed it very much as an adult.

Beautiful writing and descriptions of the fresh mountain life. It made me want to go find a similar place in this hectic world.

I enjoyed this story very much. I loved the lifestyle Heidi and her grandfather cherished and also loved their personalities very much. It made me want to go for a visit myself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best-known work of Swiss literature, July 28, 2011
This review is from: Heidi (Hardcover)
A beautifully told novel that takes place in the Swiss Alps about 5-year-old Heidi who is orphaned by the early death of her parents. Her life is difficult and she endures hardships but she works hard to educate herself and help others. A difficult beginning has a happy ending. I was greatly inspired by her kindred spirit as a child and later in life when writing my own book Adoption Detective.
