Heidi has a way of stirring the emotions of her listeners. This is even more so on this newest album. Heidi picks from her great new songs and covers, she is also surrounded by great guest appearances on this album.

Heidi Talbot
"The Last Star"
(Compass, 2010)
--------------------------------------------
A lovely, traditionally-oriented set from Irish singer Heidi Talbot (formerly of the Chicago-based band Cherish The Ladies) This album boasts several fine folk tunes, including a brisk version of the old Child Ballad, "Willie Taylor" -- one of great those girl-dresses-like-a-man sailor ballads that we know and love so well. The rest of the record follows suit, as Ms. Talbot delves into the sweeter side of traditional song. With Scottish fiddler John McCusker at the helm as producer, comparisons to Kate Rusby are perhaps not out of order -- Talbot's voice doesn't have the same heft as Rusby's, but she projects a similar warmth and cheerfulness, even when singing a sad song. An impressive cast of musicians and guest performers chime in, including fine harmonies from Kris Drever, Karine Polwart and Eddi Reader... All in all a great album! Excellent album. She has a very good voice and delivers the songs with confidence and panache, but the strength of the album is John McCusker's music and arrangements. There is something slightly eerie about her increasing similarity to Kate Rusby. Sad but true. However, good for her. She has talent.

This fantastic recording featuring Cherish the Ladies' singer Heidi Talbot is clear and beautiful. Her voice is lovely and haunts you with its warm melodies. Upbeat and laid back, enjoy Heidi and her vocal mastery. The title track, The Last Star, is not one to miss. I love this album.

I've loved Heidi since Cherish The Ladies. Her voice is exquisite and pure. This is an album you can put on and just let it play.
