The PL-2T overhead boom uses a system of perfectly balanced internal springs rather than the unsightly, mechanically unstable outboard springs used on booms of much lesser quality. Handles microphones up to 3-1/2 pounds in weight. Remove the top and back plates to thread the mic cable inside the boom with ease. No more cable connectors to remove and replace! Ships with a standard C-clamp mount.The PL-2 accepts industry standard 5/8" threaded mic clips or shockmounts. I've been pod casting for around 8 months, and decided to upgrade my equipment. To help with my desk space I decided a microphone boom would be a great addition to my equipment and decided to purchase the PL-2T. The next day (after my order had shipped) I spotted a deal on another website that had the PR-40 Microphone- the HEiL shock mount for the PR-40, and the HB-1 microphone boom all for $380. I jumped at the offer and decided to put the HB-1 and PL-2T booms to the test.
The PL-2T offered a much cleaner experience than the HB-1 as it includes a cable management system. This would be a large benefit to people who are incorporating video into their broadcast, but I'm audio only so I wasn't concerned. The PL-2T offered more fluid movement and felt sturdier, but I don't need to move the mic around a whole lot during recording so again the HB-1 covered what I needed. Overall with the PL-2T at more than double the price of the HB-1 I couldn't justify the expense.
If your on video, or you find yourself moving the microphone around a lot during recording the PL-2T might suit your needs more. For me the HB-1 took care of what I needed, and I've got no qualms with the build quality of either model.

I use this in my vocal isolation booth to hold a variety of condenser and ribbon mics. Holds very securely, I am able to position without any problems. I'm impressed with the quality, highly recommend.
This Heil product is well made and easy to use. I've never had any problems with it. The springs are heavy duty as well as the mount.
