An item such as this seems as if it would be a luxury purchase for a non-professional, but I've found it to be a necessity in preparing my podcasts. My desk quickly gets filled with all the items and equipment for the cast -- mixer, interface, computer, notes, etc. -- and the PL2T relieves you of the worry of where to fit in a mic stand. Its precise placement and steadiness allows you to adjust the mic exactly as you need.j Then, when you don't need it, it simply swings to one side and keeps the mic out of the way for the next time.

So far I've used two different mics with it, both with fine results. The first mic required the use of the counterweight, which attached easily.

I'm giving this review less than 5 stars only because the plastic covers that fit over the cord channels tend to pop off, but that's no major concern.

I picked this up for use with a Shure SM7B, which screwed right in to the connector and seems to be perfectly weighted for this stand.

The wiring channels hide the mic cable nicely and help to make the overall setup look clean and professional. The boom swings silently out of the way when I'm not using it, and adjusts silently too.

It couldn't have worked more perfectly for my needs.

I'm happy with this mic boom. It came with adapters enabling a couple of ways to mount it. I clamped it to the rear edge of my desk surface. It holds my heaviest Senni mics without sagging. I pull it into place to record, positioning it exactly where I want it. Then I push it aside so I can see the Mac screen and edit my recording in ProTools. If you're in a live studio environment, I can tell you there's no springing noise or creaking when I move the boom around. And I recovered the desk space I lost to the old, weighted mic stand.

The Heil PL-2T is among the best audio accessories I have ever used. I have a studio in my office from which I record my daily radio show on 560 KLZ-AM in Denver, Colorado by ISDN on occasion. I also do in-house recording work for my business and for radio station use.

This mic stand is extremely quiet for this host who moves from computer to computer to gather information for my political commentary as well as bring up audio clips while on air. I can readjust the microphone in the middle of the program with zero noise giving me the best efficiency I have ever had during the show.

The removable plastic clips which hide the audio cable work very well and help me avoid the painful exercise of cutting off the XLR to feed the wire through the stand and reattaching it afterward. Just remove the clips, feed the wire and you're done. And the channel which carries the wire is loose enough for me to make adjustments as needed.

Perfectly balanced with a flexible mount, this is an excellent product which can be used in amateur and professional environments.

Nice boom, BUT! one draw back for me maybe not for others.

I did not know when I ordered this boom the mounting post is fixed not hinged.

If you have to mount the boom on or right next to a wall and intend to push and pull the mic straight forward and back, please know the boom will not close flat against the wall. The design of this boom is such that the center top hinge must travel back over the mounting point to fully close. The wall prevents the center top hinge from going back over the mounting point so therefore the mic remains a full eighteen inches out from the wall.

Eighteen inches out from the wall over a thirty inch deep desk. Well guess what it gets in the way unless I push it way up over my head until I stand up anyway Then bonk. Yes I can swing it sideways then back but in (MY) case this needs a bit more space and two hands to operate it, then it blocks my notes and papers or removes them from the wall behind it.

I am going to have to have a custom mount made at the correct angle to allow the middle hinge point of the boom to go straight up when fully closed. This means I will not be able to swing the boom left or right horizontally anyway.

This is probably not a problem for most installations but for me it is.

The boom itself works great, is silent, and holds the mic solidly in place.

The boom just needs to have the ability to adjust the mounting posts angle, or provide a mounting solution that is adjustable.

A five star review would be given only if I did not have to make a mount.

Finally got the tripod out of the way and with his, suspended my mic overhead where it belongs. Excellent.

I bought this through washington state based bswusa.com via amazon.com and the item shipped same day via ups ground from ohio and it arrived the next day in indiana. I simply installed the mount then pulled out the boom and dropped it in the mount, then popped in the two plastic cable covers and it seems to work perfectly. I haven't received my mxl usb.007 yet, but it appears to be able to hold heavy condenser microphones and is silent, especially compared to some of the older outer spring adjustable boom stands.
