This review is from: Heinichen Mass 12/Bach Magnificat (Audio CD)
This is a recording of 2 great works of the German Baroque. Johann David Heinichen was a famous music theoretician and the leader of the Dresden court orchestra in the early 18th century. Many of his works were discovered only in the 20th century, and an increasing number of his secular and sacral compositions has appeared recently on different labels. This is the only recording of his last Mass, coupled on this CD with Bach's famous and much recorded Magnificat. Both pieces are performed beautifully, and the sound is clear and full. Having heard only Heinichen's secular music before, I was deeply touched by the power and sheer beauty of the Mass. I highly recommend this CD to everyone who is just getting acquainted with classical music as well as those who are already experts in Bach, Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi and company.
