5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for me
I used it on a 300 mile road trip and although I did not drive through any "rough weather" everything seemed to survive just fine. I also used bungee cords to hold it down as well as the straps that are provided.

1.0 out of 5 stars Survived 600 miles then thrown away, July 20, 2010

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I just got back from vacation two days ago and needed to use this cargo bag since we brought along an extra person. It was nice to have because the SUV was full since we were gone for over a week, but I was pretty nervous the entire time it was in use.

First, while putting it on, I got concerned when the zipper fell off with zero effort. The straps went on pretty effortlessly but I made sure to leave enough slack to add a boy scout knot just in case.

On the way up the bag started making unexpected wind noise and I was starting to get concerned that it wouldn't even make it up there. It did survive but I had noticed that the zipper decided to half-way undo itself. Luckily, nothing was lost but it could have been much, much worst.

While at our destination, I just took it off the rack. As I came home I threw it back up there with the same boy scout knots. But when I got home I noticed the inside had all come apart. There were black flakes EVERYWHERE. In frustration I just emptied it, took it off my rack, and threw it in the garbage.

I would not recommend this product. The price is a lot better than most of the other options out there but I think this is a case of You-Get-What-You-Pay-For. So, buyer beware!

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk! Almost ruined my vacation., July 6, 2010

This review is from: Heininger 3020 Advantage SportsRack Soft Top Weather Resistant Roof Top Cargo Bag (Automotive)
I have previously owned a roof top bag that lasted for years and survived many long road trips. I recently had to replace that one and ordered this one from Amazon. On our first outing from Arizona to Arkansas....we made it just 7 hours on the road when we were flagged down by another driver to take a look at our roof bag. When we got out we found it half unzipped and 2 of 4 straps gone....gone. Not just undone, they had completely come off of the bag. They were glued to the bag instead of sewn on and they popped right off. So now we are standing on the side of the road trying to figure out where we are going to store this luggage. Not fun, not fun at all. Thank goodness I had talked my husband into taking our metal hitch rack, otherwise I don't know what we would have done. This bag is junk. Amazon is getting it back and I don't care if I get any money back.

update.
I emailed the company and they gladly refunded my money. They didn't have to, all they asked is for a copy of the receipt. The product failed, but the company did not. I just wanted to let everyone know.

I bought the bag based on the price. I expected to only use it once. However, I expected to be able to use it once. The bag made it from Los Angeles to Weed, CA nearly intact. On the way, the straps came loose numerous times. They were becoming detached from the bag in two places. The bag was nearly worn through in one corner. I suppose if one is transporting large blocks of sponge across a small town, then this bag would be a good product. In all other cases, not so much.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The cargo bag is easy enough to use, but the construction and materials is not such that I would use it to travel across country or drive through inclement weather. I believe it is intended for light duty in decent weather and while I haven't had the same experiences as other reviewers, I would suggest securing it with a backup system like bungie cords or a cargo net. I think it's fine for short trips but I wouldn't put anything inside it that I just couldn't live without - but I wouldn't put anything valuable in a roof cargo system that wasn't metal and designed to be securely affixed via metal racks to my vehicle roof, like the far more expensive roof rack cargo systems you can purchase elsewhere on Amazon. Those cost hundreds of dollars - this is a soft-material bag that costs under $50. Buy what you need, spend what you must, and gauge your expectations accordingly.
