5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use Partition that Works Well

2.0 out of 5 stars OK but not worth it.
Looked good out of the box, but that was about it. Our Border Collie quickly found out how to get around the barrier. The horizontal slides don't lock in place. I finally duct taped them in place. The vertical supports are difficult to secure tightly to the floor and celing. After all of the fine tuning, the Border Collie got his head stuck in the cross bars,...

This is a simple to use partition that is easy to put together and take apart and works great. While called a pet partition it also works as a divider if you want to separate items in your vehicle. As the pictue shows it works well with a medium to large dog.

The construction is simple. There are two rungs that serve as horizontal partitions and two bars that vertically secure the partition to the back of an suv, van or station wagon. I used it in an suv. I guess the partition could also be used in any area that is between 23 to 45 inches in height and 36 to 60 inches in width. All you need is a flat surface to secure the partion. There are four "feet" that secure the parition at the top and bottom that are made out of a either a plastic or rubber ( I can't really tell.) These secure the product without damaging the vehicle and work well.

One of the great things about this product is that it is easy to put together and to take apart. The partition does not need to be a permanent fixture in your vehicle. It stores well in the box in which it came. It took me less than ten minutes to put together and about five to take it apart.

The company is located in the state of Washington and there is a toll free and direct number to the company if you have any questions. I always like to call a company to get a sense of how well they care about their products. I called on the phone and found the person who answered it very friendly and knowledgeable about this product. Plus the company has a nice website and cares about the environment.

This a simple product that works well.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK but not worth it., September 25, 2010

Looked good out of the box, but that was about it. Our Border Collie quickly found out how to get around the barrier. The horizontal slides don't lock in place. I finally duct taped them in place. The vertical supports are difficult to secure tightly to the floor and celing. After all of the fine tuning, the Border Collie got his head stuck in the cross bars, requiring an urgent stop in traffic to get his head out. That was the final straw. The pet barrier is now history. The unit maybe useful for someone with a less crafty dog. This unit was used in a Toyota FJ Cruiser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Pet Barrier, September 13, 2010

This is a great pet barrier! I have a 50 pound pit bull that would always try to climb up front with us. Well that can be a problem when you have your kids sitting in the back seat! We bought this pet barrier for a great price and it is really sturdy, easy to set up and install. You do have to make sure everything is tight but that should go without saying. It does it's job perfectly and looks good too. As far as seeing out the rear window, I really find it a non issue. Yeah you can see the bars in the rear view mirror but you can see out of your window just fine. I have added three pictures also to this product and one you can see the view out of the back window. I would recommend this pet barrier to everyone for the great price and great functionality! Amazon does an excellent job of shipping it quickly also!

2.0 out of 5 stars Bit flimsy, and consider carefully whether it will fit your car, December 25, 2010
By
This review is from: Heininger 3048 PortablePET Pet Partition (Automotive)
I've used these types of partitions for many years. This one is very convenient in that it mounts without having to attach anything to the car itself. However, that also means it is a bit flimsy for bigger dogs. Your mileage may vary.

The mount also has two major issues that make this a non-starter for many customers. First, it is really made for station wagons. It will not fit some newer SUVs. The partition requires a flat horizontal ceiling to push up against, and these cars have a rear door that slants so much that the vertical line behind the rear seat hits glass or a slanted ceiling. For example, I discovered that it will not fit in a Mazda CX-9.

If it does fit, also consider how much space you will lose in the trunk due to the slant of the rear seats. If they slant a lot, you will lose a lot of space behind the partition, and you may be better off with something that mounts only above the rear seats.

Dead simple installation! great for the small, medium to any larger size dog. Make sure you check for tightness of fit before use. Simple to remove, adjust, install and put together. you will need a phillips screwdriver to tighten 4 screws on the cross bars. Great product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple enough and gets the job done!, May 20, 2010

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
We use this in our Ford Escape. Couldn't ask for a simpler installation, so easy!

It rattled a little in the beginning but that was fixed easily enough with a little adjusting. Make sure things are adjusted tight enough..our Jack Russel was able to wiggle herself through at first too.

It really is pretty basic as far as pet partitions, but exactly what we were looking for, something to keep the dogs contained and to keep cargo from possibly sliding forward onto our children in their carseats.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked for a while..., October 18, 2011
This review is from: Heininger 3048 PortablePET Pet Partition (Automotive)
I got this for my Suburban. It was easy to assemble and easy to install. I was a little worried because it didn't seem sturdy enough to hold back my very large dog. It turned out that that was not what I needed to be worried about. My dog worked his head under the bottom cross section (the adjustable sliding parts don't lock) and pushed it over enough to get his huge body through. Taping the slides in place only got him stuck. Happened while I was in the store, so it could have turned out very badly if he had been a smaller dog that wasn't able to pull the whole thing down once he panicked and started thrashing. It doesn't work well for a small dog either, because the gaps left by the horizontal cross sections are large enough for them to wiggle through. (Again this is a Suburban/ Yukon; although I would guess any vehicle with gaps between the seats and the windows would have the same problem.)

2.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy and underwhelming, November 22, 2010
This review is from: Heininger 3048 PortablePET Pet Partition (Automotive)
Disclaimer: I have 2 big dogs (75 lbs and 110 lbs) -- and with them, this partition worked as well as a trust system. As long as they did not touch it, it was fine. When one of my dogs leaned on the partition, it folded like wet noodles.

This thing works well. No instructions so I had to figure it out by myself and fortunately I am not an idiot so got it setup in no time. We have a Honda Pilot and it kept our chow/german shepard mix (~40lbs) out of the middle row. My wife also has a dog walking business and some of the dogs she brings in the car can reach (~70lbs or so) and they haven't gotten by it yet....although it's hard to say how much they try.

After my dog destroyed one of my seatbelts, I had to put in a partition to keep them in the back. This one is nice and sturdy and totally modular, so it can be adjusted to fit any car. I have a volkwagon Jetta and sometimes the dogs are in the back compartment and sometimes I flip down the back row of seat and they have the whole are and so I need to adjust the bars to fit two different spaces. The feet did fall off, but they are easy to put back on.
