I found this to be a perfect hitch lock for my Jeep.
Fits my 2 inch square Curt hitch with no problems. Others have complained of the rattle or loose fit on their bars going into their receiver - Well it has to have some clearance for differences in tolerances, etc. The actual gap around the 2 inch square is about 3/32 - not bad. I made up that gap with 2 layers of stair tread tape on all for sides and this makes it fit nice and tight - in fact, I had to tap it in with a rubber mallet, but now zero/ NO slop and firm all around. On the lock itself, I received 2 keys and it works great and was able to tighten about 3 turns and remove the key. The dust/ moisture cap is tight, but can still be lifted off when needed. For the 1/8 inch gap on each side of the lock, I picked up two, 5/8 inch inside diameter rubber washers at the hardware store in the plumbing section and they fit tight on each side of the lock against the bar; this makes the lock not rattle either and fit tight. I give the lock 5 stars, hands down - good quality, good price, and functions correctly.

Solid lock,

Looks solid and fits perfect on a 2" receiver! I found that it is easier to put on and take off if you take the key off your key ring so you can turn it faster without having your car/house keys get in the way.

The Heininger 6012 Advantage SportsRack 1.25" Receiver Trailer Hitch Lock appears to be well made and heavy duty. The lock operates smoothly and the threads are deeply cut and easy to thread. The lock cap and rubber knobs appear to be made with UV stable materials and should last a long time.
I highly recommend this lock for your hitch, I will leave it on mine 100% of the time. My only concerns about the design is that the key rotates around several times when you unlock/remove the pin as the key must stay in the lock during the entire process. The problem with this is that any keyring the key is attached to will be spinning around and perhaps be a hindrance to unlocking the device as it could bind up in the confined area around the hitch pin lock. The solution is to use the key without a ring, but that can make the key easy to loose. I keep mine in a key box with with the spare tire tools.

Have been using this trailer hitch lock for about three months now. It has functioned perfectly, although I do agree that you might want to keep the key on a separate ring-- I have mine on a Secure Multi-Key Ring with Quick Release which has worked very well.

I like this a lot. It does exactly what it says it will. I havent tried to shoot it off or anything, but it seems strong and heavy duty. I'm sure someone with a plasma cutter could take care of this in no time flat. Of course, they could also just as easily take a hack saw to cut off the tongue of your trailer.
My only gripe - the one star deduction (would really be a half star if possible) - is that the rain cap is tough to work. It fits on nicely to keep the key hole dry and free from debris. However, after a few muddy wet exposures, it becomes very difficult to open and even more difficult to close. Overall, great product. I am not aware of any that is better.

We own two Specialized and two Raleigh bicycles that we mount on the Thule 4-Bike Parkway Hitch Bike Carrier. We use the carrier on a 1.25" receiver tow hitch. We always secure the bicycles to the carrier with a long corded bike lock. The only problem is that we used only a drawbar hook with a pin to secure it to the hitch. Anyone can just remove the drawbar and walk away with the bikes still attached to the carrier. The Heininger Hitch Lock is a great solution in protecting our investments. It is easy to use, solidly constructed and it is made in the USA.

Now I Can Leave The Hitch On,

We have always had trucks and trailers. My husband even used to build trailers. But for some reason we have never had a hitch lock. We used to always remove the receiver hitch if a trailer wasn't attached to the truck. An empty hitch can be real shin buster anyway. But now with this hitch lock we don't have to worry about someone stealing our hitch if we haven't removed it from the truck.
The hitch lock is a Deadbolt brand and it's top notch. The ends are rubber coated so it's easy to grip. When using, you are actually screwing a pin in and out so turn the key 2 or 3 revolutions. Comes with a set of 2 keys. Love it, easy to insert, easy to use and protects our hitches. Highly recommend.

This worked very well for my 1 1/4" hitch to hold in my trailer hitch cover. The cap keeps the key area clean too.

This is a good solid trailer hitch lock for the money ...,

This Heininger 6011 Advantage SportRack 2" receiver trailer hitch lock is a good solid deadbolt that will keep someone from removing your bike carrier and walking away with your bike(s). If you have a Huffy, it's no great loss, but if you put a lot of money into purchasing high-end bike you really aren't into losing it. The lock is quite solid with rubber-like grips on either end. It has a weather-type seal to protect the key hole from being exposed to the elements. Two keys are included and because they are so "generic" looking, I'd recommend labeling them with a daub of paint and etching in something that will enable you to recognize what they are for.
I wanted this for a Thule hitch mount rack and it works perfectly. I checked around and it does fit most Thule racks. Most of the racks I looked at from the Allen to the Yakima are set up for the 2" hitch lock. According to the manufacturer, it fits" 2" x 2" trailer hitches (Class III and Class IV.)" It's an easy process to check out what your rack needs before purchasing. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the flap to the weather seal is only ¼" wide and might not hold up to a lot of use. All things considered, I'd highly recommend it.

This Heininger 6011 Advantage SportsRack 2" Receiver Trailer Hitch Lock (5/8" diameter) fits my hitch. Unfortunately for me, it works with one of my bike racks (Yakima) and not the other (Swagman). The Swagman requires a lock pin with threads on one end. Bummer, and not this lock's fault.
This lock feels well-engineered. It has rubber grips on both ends, which should help in cold, dark, and wet conditions. The instructions are cute: "Remove the key." Good idea. There are two keys, so you can leave one forever in the "glove box" or "ash tray" (newer cars may have something similar, but they are not designed for gloves and ashes anymore). Label it. The other you should keep with the lock at all times (except when it is on your car, obviously... see directions). Having a nice lock like this without a key is frustrating. I have some experience with this, trust me. |
