Book Description

Schiffer Military History January 1, 2000
The Heinkel He 219 was acknowledged by friend and foe alike as one of the most outstanding night fighters of World War II. In 1942, Heinkel received a contract to develop the twin-engined He 219. Not only was the He 219 very fast, with a maximum speed in excess of 600 km/h, but it also possessed excellent maneuverability, had a well-designed cockpit, and was equipped with airborne radar. The He 219 was the first German production aircraft to have a tricycle undercarriage and ejector seats for both crew members. The author provides many previously unpublished details in describing the development history of the He 219, the technology it employed, its testing, production, and use in combat.

5.0 out of 5 stars An informative history of the unsung Uhu 219, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Heinkel He 219: An Illustrated History of Germany's Premier Nightfighter (Hardcover)
As an amateur German 'cool hardware' junky I found this book to be precisely what I was looking for. Despite admissions of inadequacy by the author, what is within the book is certainly enough to give the reader a solid appreciation of both the history and the capabilities of this aircraft.

The Uhu was one of the best twin-engine fighter/interceptors in the air during its operational lifetime, and most people have never heard of it.

Full of photos, tech-accurate professional paintings, diagrams, and knowledgeable exposition. Top-notch job.

This review is from: Heinkel He 219: An Illustrated History of Germany's Premier Nightfighter (Hardcover)
The book will be interesting to all fans of a history of aircrafts, the detailed enough material is given in the chronological order. Though the book is perfectly issued, the quality of photos leaves to wish best. The drawings are simply amazing! Good the book worth to the price.
