I teach English as a Second Language, intermediate level. This is the best dictionary I have ever seen. The explanations are clear, in simple language, the thesaurus is great, and the sample sentences are easy to understand. Too often, in an all-English dictionary, the meaning of the word is in such complicated language that it is impossible to understand, even for native-born English speakers. I have weaned my students off their bilingual dictionaries and onto this dictionary. It has helped them to write better and their vocabulary has improved greatly. Thanks you for this great addition to my library.

This dictionary is recommended in my ESL department, and I have intermediate students who learn to use it to the exclusion of bilingual dictionaries. The thesaurus feature is great, and there's lots of helpful grammar material in the back. I also like Longman--either one is excellent, and much better than standard English dictionaries for ESL students

We have been traveling in Asia for three years and so I homeschool my children. I bought several dictionaries, but I was not happy with them. I think the difference lies in the examples this dictionary gives on each definition of each word. I find this so helpful because the sentences give a more thorough understanding of a word. With a BA in literature and a JD, I can give examples, but giving my children a resource that enables them to work independantly is beneficial. My youngest son is starting to incorporate the words he learned in his daily speech, which did not happen prior to using Newbury. He can express himself more creatively. He sounds more authoritative. I enjoy using this book in our studies and am thankful we have it.

This is the greatest dictionary I have ever seen in my entire life!!
It contains meanings that are easy to understand. If I want to know what kind of verb(vt or vi) or what kind kind of noun(cont or noncount), I can find in this book!!! In addtion, it has example sentences show you how to use each word. I like these example so much!!

Really, this dictionary was what I was looking for. It's very easy to find the words, to use the phonetics guide and improve from intermediate to an advanced level using it. The appendix brings a lot of useful information. The CD is very easy to be installed, and can be used even in Ubuntu (although it's not mentioned)with no problems.

It's clear enough for foreigners whom want to study the english.
