4.0 out of 5 stars Good worship music, very good with orchestra-choral combinat, June 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Heinrich Schütz: Johannes-Passion; Psalmen Davids (Audio CD)
Martin Flamig does well with the Dresden Kreuzchor, both with Schütz and with Bach. Flämig does very well with chorus and orchestra. Examples include his recording of the Auferstehungshistorie as well as the last four tracks on this CD (I especially enjoy "Ist nicht Ephraim"). He does not do quite as well with acappela chorus as his predecessor Mauersberger did, for which reason I rate this a 4 instead of a 5. All and all, it is what the Dresden Kreuzchor does well, namely provide music for worship, not necessarily for the purists.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not pleasing, March 12, 2002
This review is from: Heinrich Schütz: Johannes-Passion; Psalmen Davids (Audio CD)
I found this recording unsatisfactory. Schreier sings the evangelist's part in a stiff and unflexible way, and the choir is even worse.
