Glenn Rahman is an undersung master of the traditional Robert E. Howard school of sword-&-sorcery. He is among a shrinking number carrying on in that genre. Ideally one ought to read this neglected novel before picking up Gardens of Lucullus, the excellent collaboration between Rahman and Richard L. Tierney, today's reincarnation of Howard and creator of the pulp version of Simon Magus.
