5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great book from Judi McCoy
I was lucky enough to get an ARC for Heir of the Dog by Judi McCoy. It's book two in her dog walker series. It's a great book, that held my interest from beginning to end, and I didn't want to put it down. The story is clever. It was easy to believe that Rudy would inherit money from the victim, a homeless man living in Central Park. And Ellie was smart to handle Sam, her...

3.0 out of 5 stars Trying to Like
I read the first book (Hounding the Pavement) and felt the main character (Ellie, not Rudy) was a bit stupid. I wasn't going to say she was TSTL, but it was getting there. This book was more than predictible and when the main character ignores common sense or any kind of intuition, it made this book hard to read. Ellie is supposed to be solving a crime because the main...

And Ellie was smart to handle Sam, her one night lover, the way she did. I can't wait for the hext book, I think it's Death in Show, to see what happens to Ellie, Rudy, her dogs, and her detective. If you like mystery, romance, and dogs, these novels are the perfect reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great series about dogs, July 9, 2010

Anyone who loves dogs would love this series about Ellie and Rudy. The story plots are great, the characters are very believable and they hold your interest. I hate the books to end, and I cannot wait for the next ones to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful book from a delightful lady!, October 20, 2009
This review is from: Heir of the Dog: A Dog Walker Mystery (Mass Market Paperback)
"Heir of the Dog" is the second Ellie Engleman "Dog Walker Mystery," and it is just as good as "Hounding the Pavement." I couldn't put it down! Ellie has the unusual ability to talk to dogs. Not like you and I do, because the dogs answer her. Ellie speaks dog! She and her best buddy, a Yorkie-poo named Rudy, find the body of a homeless man they have befriended. Gary considered them his only friends, so he leaves them all his worldly possessions, over $800,000!! So, why was he homeless...? Buy the book! He asks Ellie to find his killer, which gets her involved once again with the hunky detective from the first book. The story is good and moves quickly. The conversations between Ellie and her puppy pals are a hoot! The romance is sweet. And I can't wait for the next book! Great job, Judi!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heir of the dog, April 20, 2011
This review is from: Heir of the Dog: A Dog Walker Mystery (Mass Market Paperback)
"Heir of the Dog" was the very first book I read in this series two weeks ago. I love Rudy and Ellie's interaction and like the latter desire to be self-supporting by being in a career that fulfilled her love of dogs. The part about Gary makes me very sad; what a contrast when it comes to how people treat each other to that of the animal kingdom.
(I hope Gary comes back as a dog in Judi's future book.)

The first thing I did upon reading this book was to order all of Judi McCoy's books in this series (I want to read
more of Ellie and Rudy):

- Begging for trouble
- Death in the show
- Hounding the pavement

I finally finished "Hounding the Pavement" two days ago and am still not sure whether Rudy's death was an accident or Ellie's mom let the dog out of the house on purpose! I really enjoyed the book; I knew I would like it after
the first sentence.

I read "Death in Show" (another delightful book) several days ago and my feelings about frogs as a kid
has not changed! Ewwww :)

I am sad that I only have one book to read "Begging For Trouble"; I am not sure how I will handle
going cold turkey before Judi's next book: "TIL DEATH DO US BARK" will be out in August 2011!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, July 22, 2010

Judi McCoy did it again with her sophomore book in her dog walker series. She has a brilliant wit and a fantastic heart, and both are clearly evident in Heir of the Dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars She's the greatest!, April 20, 2010
This review is from: Heir of the Dog: A Dog Walker Mystery (Mass Market Paperback)
Judi had done it again!! I can't get enough of Ellie and Rudi. After reading Heir of The Dog, I got up and took MY dog for a walk. We pretend we are Ellie and Rudi when we walk, and think about all the fun we have. As I have learned from the book, even if you go to the same place, each time you do it brings new surprises! Thank goodness I don't have a murderer following me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty, enjoyable characters, April 13, 2010

The sencond installment in the Dog Walker series continues with some fantastic characters, including Ellie, and independent dog walker with a special gift of being able to talk to her canine companions. Rudy, her Yorkipoo dog has a great insight into people and is quite the little comedian. Detective Sam is still as hot as ever and is desperate to get closer to Ellie and keep her safe while she tries to solve the murder of a friend. There are some really interesting new characters that add so much to the book. I really loved this mystery and I can't wait for the third book in the series.

This is a great read for dog lovers!

This book was HILARIOUS!! I could not put this book down. It is creative, funny, and the plot is great. Granted, its easy to figure out the killer as soon as you meet the character, but I loved it anyway. The best part are Rudy's off handed comments which had me laughing long afer I read it. I can't wait to read the next book!!
