Book Description

Harlequin Desire April 1, 2001
This job was cake… as in cheesecake. Palm Beach socialite Julie Roper was easy on the eyes— and my eyes were on her at her brother’ s expense. Then Julie rode out of her hothouse life one midnight, and I had to introduce myself under false pretenses. She wanted to walk on the wild side… escorted by me, Billy Lucas. Who knew my poor little rich girl would blossom into a beguiling temptress, or that a footloose dude like me could harbor honorable intentions? But knowing I’ d deceived her once, would Julie trust that what dazzled me wasn’ t the silver spoons in her hope chest, but the light of love in her eyes?

This review is from: Heiress & The Bodyguard (Harlequin Desire) (Paperback)
Julie Roper comes from a family with mega money and she is not bad on the eyes either. Her older brother raised Julie after her parents died. Unknown to Julie, her brother hired a bodyguard to watch her every move.

Billy Lucas thought he had a cushy job as Julie's bodyguard. Until the day he came face to face with her. Billy knew from watching her at a distance that she was a beauty, but he had no idea just how gorgeous she was. Before Billy knew what was happening he was running off with her, so that he could help her to fulfil her wishes of behaving like an ordinary woman for a week. There is an attraction between the two that creates a sexual tension that jumps off the page. Billy knows that he must tell her that her brother hired him to be her bodyguard, but he does not want to jeopardize their blossoming relationship. If he were smart, however, he would tell her before someone else does.

More than the romance in this book there was a ton of humor. Julie is not dumb but she is clueless when it comes to the world outside her rich mansion. She has never been in a motel, never pumped gas, and has never worn clothes that were not tailored. The humor between Julie and Billy is simply hilarious. If you are looking for a good laugh with a mix of romance than this is the book you want to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing pleasure., August 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Heiress & The Bodyguard (Harlequin Desire) (Paperback)
In this book, a petite, likeable, spirited heiress ends up on an adventure with a dark, sometimes cynical bodyguard. An interesting twist is that he IS her bodyguard, but she doesn't know that (he was hired by her brother to watch her surreptitiously). Then, she ends up HIRING him as her bodyguard. That's a cute twist. I like romances, but I find it hard to actually get through most of them because I studied English literature so my curse is to be able to recognize bad writing when I read it. This romance was a surprising pleasure: well-written with genuine originality and humor. The author's real enjoyment of writing and of her characters comes through in every page. I can't say it enough: it was a real pleasure. Don't miss this one.
