5.0 out of 5 stars Leave a legacy of faith to the next generation
In Heirs of the Covenant the author, Susan Hunt, warns of the folly of an individualistic and segmented view of the Bible while stressing the importance of a covenantal perspective. Ms. Hunt explains how superficially studying people and events in the Bible without seeing the overarching message of Jesus on every page may lead us into legalism, liberalism, or moralism...

5.0 out of 5 stars Leave a legacy of faith to the next generation, July 23, 2004
This review is from: Heirs of the Covenant: Leaving a Legacy of Faith for the Next Generation (Paperback)
In Heirs of the Covenant the author, Susan Hunt, warns of the folly of an individualistic and segmented view of the Bible while stressing the importance of a covenantal perspective. Ms. Hunt explains how superficially studying people and events in the Bible without seeing the overarching message of Jesus on every page may lead us into legalism, liberalism, or moralism. The author beautifully describes how God, the ultimate covenant keeper, gave covenant responsibilities to His people. Living and teaching His ways to the next generation (covenantally)is our main responsibility. This covenant way of life, Hunt explains, is not only a responsibility but a glorious privilege to be lived out in our homes, churches, and communities.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strong encouragement for parents and Christian educators alike!, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Heirs of the Covenant: Leaving a Legacy of Faith for the Next Generation (Paperback)
The primary target audience for this book are those who are in the ministry of Christian education, primarily in the capacity as a Minister of Education at a local church body. However, that being said, the biblical principles that Hunt examines apply to every family as well, since the family is the first and primary educational system for the transmission of biblical values to the next generation. In fact, if I could sum up Susan Hunt's book in one thought that would be it - education is the transmission of biblical values to the next generation - and she believes that the church (and the family) today isn't doing a very good job of it!

What I liked most about the book is that it sets the expectation bar very, very high! Hunt believes that if one parent is a believer, then those children raised in that home should have a distinct advantage over the rest of the world in terms of their spiritual development...of course, you need to read that statement again, Hunt believes that children of the covenant should have an advantage, but unfortunately many don't! As a Christian educator herself, Hunt not only can challenge the church and the family to step up and take God's biblical design for passing on the truth to a whole new level, but she also has dozens of practical ideas and suggestions that families and churches alike can implement to move forward on this concept.

The book presents a very strong appreciation for God's Word and for training our children in the truth. Most readers will pick up on the concept that Hunt comes from a Calvinistic vantage in her discipleship believing that God's sovereignty actually works for the goal of education and missions and not against it. Hunt believes strongly that God is a promise-maker and a promise-keeper and those promises He's made with His people are things we can take to the bank in our own lives as well. The book is filled with excellent Scripture references useful in training the next generation and also has dozens of stories that will inspire as well as challenge. I found the book to be a very helpful and useful read as a father as well as a Christian education and Bible study teacher.

This book is great for anyone in the church - parents, singles, retired, any age. Susan Hunt does a great job talking about the covenant and what the covenant community should look like. I wish that everyone in the church today would read it! For parents, it is a must read.

This is a great book on the Covenant, The Covenant God has made to His people, That He will be their God and they will be his people, and He will be with them where ever they go. It's all about God's love for His people and the freedom we have in Him through His son Jesus Christ. A great tool to teach our children and the church to live as a community and to leave a legacy of Faith to the next generation.
