Very good,
By Bjorkfinity (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Heitor Villa-Lobos: Obra Completa Para Violao Solo (Audio CD)
This is very, very good. I don't think there are two guitars on any of these tracks. These are great if not perfect interpretations. There is no egotism showing in this playing, it's very true to the music. And there is no effort to be speedfreaks on some of the fast passages (ie. Etude Nos. 1 & 2) like some classical guitarists strive for. Nothing is too slow (ie. Yepes) or too fast. Very relaxing. The recording itself is very good, the sound is forward without any hollow areas. The bass and the trebles sound great. I usually don't like 2-guitar music which is why I first avoided this CD but I haven't found any duet music on this CD. 2-guitar music to me sometimes gets to sound like mosquitos jumping all over the neck and it all starts to sound like Brazilian music than anything else. This is better than Fabio Zanon's, Timo Korhonen 's or Narciso Yepes' recordings. This is the best I have heard from the Assad Duo. Get this CD, you will not be disappointed.
