Great for frying,
This review is from: Helen Chen's Asian Kitchen 5-inch Spider Strainer (Kitchen)
This has been the best scoop for deep frying that I have ever owned. You wouldnt know it until you actually use it but it allows you to remove both large and small objects from the boiling oil before they burn and with minimul effort. It has held up well through use also.

While looking at this product, I came across other models that were larger. Based on some of the other reviews I decided to go with this model, and I was glad that I did.
It really is the perfect size for its intended purpose - to remove items that have been frying in oil, OR to remove pasta from boiling water. It does a great job for both. The construction seems sturdy and well built, and I like the wooden handle because it stays cool to the touch.

Spider skimmers are larger than you think, but this one is the perfect size, fits into our smallest saucepan. A necessity for anyone who does a lot of boiling . . .

Works great. Still going strong. A little pain to clean by hand cause the sponge will start to break on it. I don't recommend that you soak it (or anything wooden) as it will make it crack easier. But I recommend it and I'm glad I purchased it.

It's the perfect size. I almost purchased the larger one, but unless you're planning on feeding the whole team this is the right size. Also, it has held up well in the dishwasher; always a plus.

Great Spider, this is an excellent value. The handle is nice and wide so it does not try and turn over on you when you are extracting the food.

Great item to have around. Much better than a slotted spoon. I debated about getting the bigger sized basket but I think the bigger size would have been too big for some pots.

Not much to say, after all it is simply a spider. It cleans up nicely and works well for skimming smaller items out of the pot when frying or boiling.
If you want a spider for larger things such as fish or chicken, you may want to go with the 7" version as 5" can be a bit small for that. Overall it's a great utensil and a must-own if you plan to do any deep frying.

I needed a kitchen spider, and after shopping around in some grocery stores, I couldn't find one that had a sturdy enougy handle. This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for.
