We love 'Pastaciotta',
This review is from: Helen's Asian Kitchen Dumpling Press (Kitchen)
My family loves Pastaciotta's they are sweet Italian cookie pies made with ricotta or custard. This kitchen tool makes them cute & fun. We even made a PBJ with it too!!AND if you have grandchildren it is a wonderful experience to share making anything with this little crimper. I really like it.

This small product is great for all the pierogi makers. I've used my fingers to crimp the edges and this dumpling press made the pierogi look better and they were tighly secure.

It's not an impressive-looking tool but it does what it's meant to do and is so much faster than crimping dumplings by hand.

I enjoy dim sum and we live in an area where it is not really available. So we tackle dumplings every once and a while. This press has simplified the process of making pot stickers quite a bit. I can make an entire package of dumpling skins into pot stickers in less than 1/2 hour. No that doesn't cover making the filling itself, but overall in an hour we can be eating lovely dumplings and I am not going crazy with wetting and folding the dumpling skins and having them unfold or tear. This press holds a slightly less than a teaspoon of filling and a round dumpling skin and just a quick press and onto the next one. I do use a fingertip of water on the edge on one side. I like the little handles. I spray mine with a touch of Pam at the beginning and it works for the whole batch. It is still a messy process so I make mine over a sheet pan and keep the mess more contained. This is a great inexpensive easy to use product and definitely a great idea.

It works! but it's not Chinese.,

I recently picked this up for a couple of bucks at a kitchen supply store and absolutely love it. I do a fair amount of Asian cooking and regularly had trouble closing dumplings in a uniform manner. Folding and pinching in the traditional style sometimes worked, sometimes needed work and sometimes needed some crimping and sometimes needed to just be tossed in frustration. What the heck I thought. Maybe this will work, if it doesn't it's only a couple of bucks. I have a Chinese-American co-worker and as I picked it up I could just hear her saying "That's not Chinese." I got my wrappers from the market, made the stuffing and got out the press. And it worked like a dream! Each dumpling coming out perfectly. I've read here that some people had problems but it sounds like problems with the wrapper, not the press itself. I was so use to having a 30% failure rate that I found I'd made too many it was great! The next day I proudly told me co-worker about the tool. She raised an eyebrow. I showed it to her. "That's not Chinese." She firmly declared. "No" I said, "but it sure works great."

This is an inexpensive item that works great. I use it for making Pot Stickers. It is just perfect and much faster than trying to shape them by hand.

Does the job, but not impressive,

I looked at a few other dumpling presses on Amazon before going with Helen's Dumpling Press. I liked that the press had handles. The dough needs to be the exact round shape as the press, if not--if the dough drapes over the edge, a knife or something sharp is necessary to cut off the excess dough. The press merely presses the edges together. The pleated edge looks nice and is about the same width as the "stuffed" part of the dumpling. Be careful while pressing because the hinges tend to pinch the dumpling/dough. This press is time consuming to use (i.e. getting it to work correctly and properly). Also, the plastic does not seem very durable; the "handles" bend easily. In the end, I just made the dumplings by hand (ans the press). I gave it 1 star for ease of use and for time-saving.

Potstickers aren't just for Christmas Eve anymore!,

My family loves potstickers and I've been making Alton Brown's Perfect Potstickers recipe (Google it, trust me) for years, but filling the wontons and sealing them takes so long that I rarely bother making it. We traditionally make them for Christmas Eve dinner but rarely any other time because they're too much work (yeah, I'm a lazy cook, did I mention that?). So, I bought two of these to see if it would make the process any easier and/or faster. Well, I made potstickers last night (a random Thursday in February) with the "help" of two toddlers and YES, it makes the process much, much easier and faster! I'm so glad I got it and now I'm searching for other recipes/uses for this handy little tool!
