I got this to fix some metric bolt holes that had stripped out in my Toyota's 22RE timing cover, which is aluminum. The water pump bolts started backing out, and well, they were stripped on the timing cover side...

the instructions on the helicoil were simple and easy: Drill, tap with included tool, and then screw in the helicoil part to create the new thread.

The only drawbacks I saw in this kit were:
1) Not clear how best to address a hole that's deeper than one helicoil unit (I ended up screwing in a second on top, then carefully snipping the excess rising above the hole's top).
2) The small tab at the bottom of each helicoil is designed to snap off when the coil is seated, but it's a pain, and I worried about disrupting the new threads when I forced the tab to snap with needle nose pliers.

Overall, it's a good kit and I'd use it again.

If you need a stripped threaded hole repaired, this is the product. Works first and every time. Easy to use. If you need a longer amount of threades, just screw in another length of insert. Great Product!

Kit arrived complete and was easy to use. The helicoil completely solved my stripped thread issue on the brake mounts of my Fox mountain bike fork. I highly recommend this product.

This is a must have product if you work on kitted mopeds!
Throw a kit on it, but first, helicoil the exhaust holes

Was replacing the timing belt and water pump on my 2009 Subaru. I tightened up one of the last bolts on the water pump and felt it go loose and feared the worst. Took the pump off and with bolt came out all the thread. Bummer, aluminum blocks are soft!

Ordered the helicoil kit from Amazon around 10 am on Friday, and got it delivered same day by 6 pm for $3.99! That is ridiculous and over $20 cheaper than any local store!

The fit was too tight to use a powered drill, so I stuck a drill bit into my tap/die set hand tool and drilled out the 1/4" hole required. Use the included tap and used my shop vac to vacuum out the shavings. The installation of the helicoil was so easy! Just drop it in the included tool and screw it into your new tapped 1/4" hole. Break the tang off and you're ready to go!

That one hole for my water pump is now the strongest out of the 6 holes there are. Repair was perfect and I have no coolant leaks so all is well!

I bought this to fix one threaded hole in an aluminum engine case. I ended up fixing three or four more holes in the same case. Very handy solution. I only needed to repair the one size of hole. But I'll consider getting a complete set of these should I ever need to fix a hole other than 6mm.

Note: For those working on vintage Japanese motorcycles, many of the original fasteners that use 5mm x .9 thread pitch (JIS) can no longer be found, or are very expensive to acquire. One solution (not for those doing a perfect restoration) is to re-tap the hole to the standard 6mm x 1, and use the much more common 6mm bolt or screw in place of the old JIS 5mm hardware.

What more can you say? Helicoils have worked great for years in repairing stripped threads. In this case, I repaired a stripped thread in a motorcycle engine head.

I used this to repair the chain bar stud holes on my Echo chainsaw. It worked like a champ. In fact, I'd bet the new steel threads are actually stronger than the old aluminum ones. This product saved me over $50 because a new engine case would have been $80.
