As a fan of Audiomachine, I awaited the release of "Helios" with excitement, and gave it a listen as soon as it was released. Once again, I am in awe of the talent of the composers and I find myself very inspired by their work. "Helios" has an epic quality, the kind of quality that can only be delivered by a full orchestra - and indeed a bit of research shows that a 175-piece orchestra was used to record the cues on the album.

The music was composed specifically for film and television advertising: in fact, you may recognize some of the music on this album from advertisements for "The Hobbit" and "Life of Pi". Normally this music is off limits to the public, and Audiomachine does have many albums that have not been commercially released - but fortunately they have decided to share some of their albums and so we are now lucky enough to be able to purchase the MP3.

The album starts off with a percussive powerhouse in "Colussus" [Track 1], which captures your attention right away. Then, the album goes to some very interesting places - "Farewell to Earth" [Track 10] and "Apollo's Triumph" [Track 13] are two of my personal favorites.

The main criticism I have of this album is that at 35 minutes in length it is far too short. The last two albums from Audiomachine were longer: "Chronicles" had over an hour of music, and "Epica" had 43 minutes. I have always believed in quality over quantity, but as a fan of this music I simply wanted more.

To those unfamiliar with Audiomachine, I would recommend purchasing their two previous albums first: Chronicles and Epica. But for those who already own/enjoy the two previous albums, this is a no-brainer: buy "Helios" now!

If you like Audiomachine, definitely buy this. But if you haven't heard them before, start with Tree of Life - that's by far their best album.

If you're into Epic music, this is a fantastic album. Of all the albums I've bought recently, this is the one I've replayed the most. If you like E.S. Posthumus and Two Steps from Hell (which were what I was listening to before Amazon recommended Audiomachine to me), you'll probably like Audiomachine.

Really like this Album. Favorite tracks are Helios and Four Horsemen. Overall it is a solid album with not a bad track on it. Also have the albums Existence, Epica, and Chronicles. I'd rank this 3rd of the 4. Wish it were a bit longer.

Too short compared to their other albums (36 min vs 1 hour for the others)

While I enjoy 5 of the 13 tracks well enough, only one is a favorite: Apollo's Triumph. I suppose my expections are just too high after so thoroughly enjoying 3 other albums by Audiomachine. Take my subjective opionion for what it is worth (not much ;)

<Update> Okay, I've upgraded this to 4 stars considering how much I have been listneing to those 5 tracks. Seems only fair.

My personal favorite Audiomachine album so far; I truly love every song on it - not the longest of albums, but high quality.

The CD has beautiful music, though what I really want to get my hands on is Leviathan, guess I'll have to wait until they stop being stingy and release the music to the public.

I recently discovered Audiomachine through my love of soundtrack music. It was recommended through Amazon after purchasing other soundtrack items and I am glad I gave it a listen. From my understanding, this is the music that is sometimes used in trailer music for both movies and video games. Each piece is just perfect and unique in a special way. They can be epic, action packed, futuristic, mysterious, and emotional. It is easy to see how each of these can be used for the various trailers that they are sometimes created for. It is amazing that Audiomachine can come up with some many great tracks. I've since bought all of their other albums and they seem to never run out of creative ideas. One of the things that I've always loved about soundtrack music is that it gives me the ability to close my eyes and create my own movie. Each of these tracks has that same power. They can each be a different adventure each time. Great music to write to. All of their albums are just wonderful and I highly recommend them. Some of my favorite tracks from this particular album are Sol Invictus and Farewell to Earth. Get these...you won't be disappointed!
