4.0 out of 5 stars It's Durable... November 21, 2011

So..... Myself and several co-workers decided to make these helicopters part of our down time while over here in the middle of nowhere... We have several around the shop right now, and I purchased this one...... the other guys all spent about $20 on theirs.... the Syma 107, 108 and 109... that's the Sport, Cobra, and Apache... and I spent $40 on this one when it was on sale (now it's $50). This ones handling doesn't even come close to comparing to theirs... I read up more on the reviews, and for some reason everyone says it's great, but I'm thinking they've just never tried the Symas. I even ordered another knuckle that holds the stabilizer bar to the top rotor, (only came with one), in hopes that it may make it more stable and manageable.. it didn't... Also, after crashing about 15 times, the tail rotor snapped off at the bottom of the curve... I superglued it back on about 4 times, and then drilled holes on either side of the crack and safety wired it back on, and superglued again :) gotta say, it has held up well after all the crashes, and it is manageable to fly, and IT SHOOTS MISSLES!! which is the major benefit over the Symas........... but overall.... the Symas are definitely more agile, and easily controlled (3 I named anyways), and the batteries last a little longer, and they are WAY quieter, and for less than half the price, I think I would have just gone with one of those.

I upped it to a 4 star, only because it has withstood a major beating, and it shoots missles. It did require the repair of the tail rotor tho, and it doesn't handle as good as it should for the price. and it's loud.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comparable to Helizone Firebird, but with missiles! August 17, 2011

This helicopter rocks! I especially love the missile launching function. It fires 2 spring loaded missiles for an effective range of about 6-8 feet, and it shoots fairly straight. It comes with 6 missiles, so you don't have to worry if you lose a few of them. It also comes with 2 cardboard cut-out tanks for target practice, which is a fun touch.

When flown in the environment it is specifically designed for - indoors and windless - this helicopter is very stable and maneuverable. It can just hang in the air without much drift. I also own the Helizone Firebird. The Firebird seems a bit easier to maneuver and seems to have better vertical stability, but the Combat Fighter has the undeniable draw of the missiles, and seems to have more power and can fly faster. The Combat Fighter's motor operates a little louder than the Firebird's, but that's a very minor difference that doesn't affect the enjoyability of the helicopter. Other than these things, these two models are very comparable.

There is one thing to be aware of. After one of my first crashes, which was a minor crash onto carpet, the top set of rotors was barely spinning and the helicopter could no longer take off. I was disappointed and was about to write off the helicopter as cheap. But then I realized that the screw attaching the rotors to the rotor shaft was loose, and once I tightened the screw, the helicopter worked just fine again. It has since sustained multiple crashes without effect on its performance.

Overall, I've really enjoyed this helicopter and would highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining; probably best for older children January 2, 2012
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is my first remote-controlled helicopter (and remote-controlled flying toy actually). I have played with radio-controlled cars in the past. The helicopter comes in a decently weighted box with attractive background battle graphics. Included in the box are the helicopter itself, the remote control, charging cable, missiles, two cardboard tank targets with stands, and instructions. Thoughtful additions include spare rotor blades (including both main (large) and tail (small) ones), in the event of damage to any on the copter. While the helicopter can hold only 2 missiles at a time, 6 are provided (in the event that any get lost "in battle"). The helicopter comes pre-charged, so one only needs to find 6 AA batteries (a compelling argument for using rechargeable ones) and a small Philips-head screwdriver to open the back panel of the remote for battery installation.

Once installed, a pre-flight synchronization check is needed to sync the remote with the helicopter. Three channels are provided to avoid confusion when flying helicopters with others. Once the remote and helicopter are synced, the flying (and fun) can begin. I am a novice at flying R/C copters so I had issues with maneuvering the toy around. Fortunately, the copter seemed fairly resilient as I managed to bounce it off the ground a few times and as I ran it into the sofa and coffee table without incurring damage. I tried shooting one of the missiles, and it seemed to run fairly straight for around 8 feet.

The charging cable conveniently includes a USB connector so one can charge it in one's laptop. Charging is complete when the LED in the USB connector lights up again.

Overall I'd say this is a great beginner's R/C helicopter and I look forward to honing my flying skills with it.

Great Helicopter! Flies straight and corners tight. Very sturdy and durable. Only drawback is no spare parts, so keep any old copters around for spare parts. Great for the money
