Book Description

November 9, 2001
Hug the bear and take the bull by the horns. Come out ahead in any market.

Investors are more worried than ever about where to invest their money. Investment expert Ken Stern's new book To Hell and Back offers smart strategies for investing in any type of market. Stern experienced the roller coaster of Wall Street firsthand, at first getting caught up in the frenzy surrounding tech stocks before returning to the fundamental strategies. He still believes the stock market holds unlimited opportunity. His new book provides investors with advice to get ahead, and stay ahead.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

One of the first titles to arise from the ashes of the stock market, CFP-financial analyst Stern's book is based on personal experience. He boils down the fundamentals of investing into nuggets of easy-to-grasp information. One example is a simple yet thorough explanation of the economy and the business cycle, along with key indicators. Another is his stock-picking tips, from comparisons (the right way) to classic mistakes. Yet another is information on spotting the trends, accompanied by checklists and a few stellar recommendations. He's quick to add two caveats: he advocates disciplined investing (e.g., review holdings once a month), and he insists that no one individual, no one company, can predict with 100 percent accuracy the inevitability of a recession or business contraction. Written with humility and humor--a rare combination. Barbara Jacobs

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than an MBA for less (...), December 11, 2001

This review is from: To Hell & Back: How I Survived Wall Street's Roller Coaster...and How You Can Too (Hardcover)
The money and time you put in studying this book voraciously will be rewarded tenfold at least! As a seasoned market veteran, I was first attracted to the book because the author and I share a similar surname, but I expected the typical feel-good hyped up hardcover pep talk with no pragmatic value whatsoever. I couldn't have been more wrong! This book will give you all the information you need to plan a lifetime investment strategy that will get returns that would make any market guru green with envy. From a simplified explanation of the business cycle to new stock selection models, to explanations of market math that a first grader could understand, to exact steps you need to take to develop the mental toughness needed to survive and thrive in the investment arena, I only wish this book had been available when I had started out. It took me many years of study and painful mistakes to figure out half of the info inside, and the rest was totally innovative. Mr. Stern appears to be one of the precious few advisors who tell it like it is without hyperbole or fancy language, so that real people can make real money and have real security and peace of mind. My highest reccomendation!

4.0 out of 5 stars buying book after seeing PBS show, August 9, 2005
This review is from: To Hell & Back: How I Survived Wall Street's Roller Coaster...and How You Can Too (Hardcover)
I just saw Ken Stern's Life Plan for Wealth on PBS and decided to get his book for more detailed information than was provided on the PBS program (my 4 star rating is for info I got from watching the PBS program) I prefer to do my own homework and found that D.Walkush's comments below are just wrong. Ken Stern is listed as one of Bloomberg's Top Wealth Managers for 2005. His company has several workshops offered this month, and his newsletters are current. Doesn't seem outdated to me...
