4.0 out of 5 stars TSOL has FOUR FACES - check it out!, May 21, 2008
This review is from: Hell & Back Together 1984-90 (Audio CD)
Ok, here's the deal:

TSOL began as a punk band with a different singer and a completely punk format (it seems to be what almost everyone that previously reviewed the Hell collection was looking for).

If the PUNK TSOL is what you are looking for (Version 1), try the following:

Dance With Me
Thoughts of Yesterday 1981 - 1982
**The singer for this band is Jack Griggers / Jack Grisham who is back with the band now as far as I know. He was also the singer for a band that was called Tender Fury - punkers won't care for this much, but there were some decent songs on the debut disc, ironically more like what Joe was doing with TSOL at the time. I have not heard their second record, but I think it was called something like "If anger was soul, I'd be James Brown."**

Version 2
Joe Wood on vocals, transitioning from punk to a hybrid of rock and metal.

Revenge - imo, the best disc that they made
Change Today? great material, re-release has extra tracks

Version 3

Joe Wood on vocals, more of a mainstream metal sound, but still a cut above. Some mentioned AC/DC in another review - I can see that, but much more bluesy and imo better.

Hit & Run
Strange Love
To Hell and Back

Joe Wood is still making music with the Lonely Ones - it's more blues oriented, but very good. I've always liked his voice and he's gotten better with age. Check out his song "Dark Days" if you can find it. Joe also fronted a band called Cisco Poison which wasn't bad, again if you can find it.

Version 4

Jack Grisham/Griggers is fronting the band again with a return to the punk roots.

Disappear
Divided We Stand
Looks like they're releasing and re-releasing a million live in concert videos, cds, etc etc

Bottom line - this band has been above average in every version. They had a huge influence on the early 80s Punk movement with Jack and wrote great songs with Joe. Early TSOL fans are generally not going to like the music they made with Joe, and later fans may not identify with Jack's original format, but if you stick to what DO you like with this band, you won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars not the original members, but still some good stuff, December 20, 2000
This review is from: Hell & Back Together 1984-90 (Audio CD)
i have been a TSOL fan since the beginning.ill agree this "mark II" stuff is not as great as the stuff with jack and todd it is still some good music. joe woods is a great bluesy singer with a good edge. he is actually jacks bro in law.joe didnt try to imitate jack but instead offered somthing a bit different.some of the stuff is weak but some stand out as some of the best TSOL.i dont see the revenge album here but think it is still around. coulors is one of my favorite songs.IF YOU

ARE LOOKING FOR THE TSOL OUT ON THE ROAD NOW THIS IS NOT IT TRY LIVE 91.BUT IT HAS SOME GOOD STUFF

1.0 out of 5 stars Hell is right!, September 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hell & Back Together 1984-90 (Audio CD)
This is a "greatest hits" type of compilation of the lame, latter-day line up of T.S.O.L. It has no connection to the original T.S.O.L., and if you've seen the reunited original line-up touring on the SOCIAL CHAOS tour, you'll want to avoid this CD, because it's not the same band! Instead, get the TSOL/Weathered Statues or Dance With Me CDs--they are pure dynamite!
