Book Description

October 29, 2008
The first book to focus on new gothic art, Hell Bound highlights a new generation of contemporary artists who are increasingly obsessed with the darker things in life. Illustrators, street artists, sculptors, photographers, filmmakers, installation artists, and painters are all reflecting this renewed interest in gothic imagery.

Horror has become a more accepted part of everyday lifeand art, as always, is a reflection of life. Here death metal, the war on terror and throwaway pop culture meet, feeding the popular fascination for all things gothic.

Among the art featured is the iconoclastic work of Ken Kagami, Terence Koh, Ricky Swallow, the photographic collages of Marnie Weber, the drawings of Chloe Piene and Wes Lang, the paintings of Matt Greene and Iris Van Dongen, the outsider punk art of Pure Evil, and the illustrations of French.

4.0 out of 5 stars Speaking of "bound"..., November 27, 2010

This review is from: Hell Bound: New Gothic Art (Paperback)
I found this to be a very interesting and informative book. As a visual artist that tends to make darker work it provides some conceptual theories as to why I, along with other artists, are doing so. However, the book is poorly bound and my copy has detached from the cover. I am hoping that the pages stick together. But overall I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the variety of work that comprises "Gothic Art."

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark and Stunning!, August 18, 2010
This review is from: Hell Bound: New Gothic Art (Paperback)
I'm often fascinated by what others think is "Gothic". This remarkable book definitely has fantastic descriptions and interesting insights into what the world of the darker arts represent. For me, I was amazed and stunned by the illustrations and photos, and inspired to give my hand at some the sculptural and mix-media pieces! This is a lot fun and dark humored artwork! Perfect for anyone who's looking for something different!
