I was fortunate enough to get a pre-released, autographed copy of "Hellbound Train" and it's AWESOME!!!!
I play it all tracks start-to-finish...like the old days with vinyl...it's well sequenced like that... I'm a guitar lover first and foremost...and I've followed this band on CD (I live in Minneapolis..they don't play here...sadly)...ever since I 1st heard them on the Comcast "Music Choice" blues channel ... with the song "Dreams Come Real"...I was like "Hey now!" Lots of reviewers try to make a comparison to someone else...but that's not easy to do with these guys...not too many dual slide guitar bands when you think about it...original Fleetwood Mac?...Jeremy Spencer on slide...not Peter Green or Danny Kirwan tho...Derek&Dominos?..Duane on slide..not Eric tho...Allmans? again Duane, not Dickie tho(love you man!)..no sir...agree? That's why I love this band so much. Technically...the art of weaving 2 slide guitars is not easy..I'll leave it at that. You guitar players out there..try it...whadda ya think? I won't go into the song writing talents of Tom Gray...exemplary...go to their website. This recording, to me, is suitable for 2010 Blues Awards recognition...I love the Mississippi Fred..banjo(Get Gone)..Francine...sax..hand claps...this CD is my new proudest possession.."Ghost In My Guitar"...about a Martin..i think that can happen..no kiddin'..."Lonely"...is my personal favorite...one of those songs that gives you chicken skin...drenched w/ reverb, perfect tone, Tom's "I just drank some battery acid and I like it" vocals..for me, it don't get no better than that. I'm no big time reviewer...I've only given out 5 stars once before...this is the 2nd time...every track is great...when I play a tune for my friends they go "Who is that!" so it's pretty cool...thanks Delta Moon! "Ain't No Train" - "I was down in East Atlanta drinkin' Vodka and Fanta"...check it out. "Plantation Song"...a classic in my opinion. Hope this review is helpful....Les from Mpls

Raw contemporary southern blues music that has its roots firmly down the Mississippi delta!,

If you're very lucky... you might just catch Delta Moon rolling down the tracks to a venue near you playing their new album `Hell Bound Train', featuring the unmistakable whisky voice of Tom Gray on lap steel guitar perfectly in synch with Mark Johnson on bottleneck slide guitar along with Franher Joseph on bass and Darren Stanley on drums & percussion. One listen to this album and it's easy to see why Tom Gray was voted 'Blues Songwriter of the Year' at the 2008 Roots Music Association Music Industry Awards and had songs recorded by Cyndi Lauper, Manfred Mann and Bonnie Bramlett to name just a few!
'Hell Bound Train' is raw contemporary southern blues music that has its roots firmly down the Mississippi delta! Atlanta based Delta Moon feature dual slide guitars and a tight pulsating rhythm section that forge infectious tunes with honest heartfelt lyrics that defy any listener not to be moved, because if these songs can't get you doing the 'Dixie Chicken'... then you know your goose is well and truly cooked! Only after the first five tracks have got you onboard do the band find time to tip their hats to Mississippi legend Fred McDowell, covering his classic 'You Gotta Move'. Five more original cuts follow confirming what you probably already know, which is that something special sure makes `Hell Bound Train' compelling listening! Could it be your emotions have been stirred by those damn fine lyrics howled at the moon, telling tragic tales of life on the edge influenced by each roll of the dice, or maybe it's the sound of twin slide guitars and infectious rhythms urging you to get up and boogie that make it so addictive... maybe I should let you decide? Track listing... Hellbound Train, Room 429, Lonely, Get Gone, True Love Lies, You Got To Move, Stuck In Carolina, Ain't No Train, Ghost In My Guitar, Take The Back Road Home, Plantation Song.

Any band that features not one, but two, slide guitarists is a band for me. I have most of their albums, and love them all. There isn't a weak one in the bunch. I will say, however, this is my favorite. I like the band's new stripped down sound. The vocals are a little rough, and compliment the dirty guitar sounds perfectly. The songs themselves are consistently strong throughout, particularly the title track. They are steeped in gritty Delta blues, with a nice groove, and just a hint of rock. I recommend any of their albums you can get your hands on, but if you buy just one, get this one!
