It is clear that Steve Wands works in comic book creation. This reads like a prose version of a great comic script. The visual elements are intense and the ending soars back to something massive and epic.

The story is well crafted, unexpected in its twists and above all entertaining. I felt a bit of a grind through the middle section, I would have liked to know why he felt his wife and family cursed him. It was touched on but lacked the depth of detail that the first half of the story had.

If the middle and end was as carefully crafted as the beginning and given the same intense depth - this would be a 5 star review from me.

While I occasionally download horror stories, post apocalyptic tales, zombie stuff - they are not my preferred genres to spend a lot of time in. It has most to do with suspension of belief required for plot devices and premises. Still, I try one or two every couple of weeks to see if the genre will offer me a writer whose style will pull me into the tale and spin it well enough I am not just laughing at (what I feel) is hokey as tale goes through its slashes, feasts, etc.

This writer has hit a high note in my mind. The story is told without a bunch of silliness that (I feel) can - at times - be what makes me disfavor the genre over others. There are contacts with the undead and descriptive bits on such. However, the whole was not focused merely on encounters for gore value or tons of scenes related to zombie meets to inflate word count. In fact, the only real gore (to my thinking) was the human on human encounter this man relayed over the Thanksgiving feast and its main course.

It takes a look at a man and a ghost who have watched the earth reclaimed via apocalyptic events. I don't want to give spoilers (I have only done so 2 or 3 times) so I won't give more specific details.

I CAN say, this zombie short was tastefully done (no pun intended) and edited very well with vivid imagery and fast pace.

Recommend getting this one free and investing in a longer work of this author.

Christine

First of all, this story is free - so how can someone pan it as some have done here?

Secondly, the story is a good one. It is basically a zombie art piece. But don't let that turn you off if you love zombie books as I do.

Because I am not saying there is not good apocalyptic action to be found here. Our protagonist is butchered by his fellow survivors, then his "ghost" watches zombies slaughter those who ate him.

Yet his ghost remains alive, trapped in a hell of his own making and haunted by the wife and child he ran from and allowed to be taken by zombies. His fate is more horrific than those who he watched perish after his consumption. He wanders the Earth alone until...well I won't give away too much about his fate.

This is a haunting story and one which speaks to the consequences of our actions. Even if no one else "knows" what you've done, the most important person will always know. You! And no one can escape that.

I highly recommend this story. Wands is a very good writer and this story is strong enough that I still would've given it five stars if I had paid for it.

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I got this book as a free download from Amazon.

Hell Comes for the Hurried is about a man who wants stay drunk all the time so that he doesn't have to feel anything. He has thought of suicide on more than one occasion. He watched his wife and son get eaten by zombies. He is filled with so much grief that he blames himself because he ran away.

All he wants to do is die and be with his family again but he believes himself to be to much of a coward to kill his own self. His life is filled with him waiting for his chance at death. He travels with a small group of people but he never talks to them. He doesn't know anything about like who they are, where they lived before the zombie apocalypse. Even their names are fuzzy to him.

Hell Comes for the Hurried is good story I just wished it had been longer. I wished we could have know more about the people he was traveling with. I also would like to known more of who he was and his wife and son. What kind of person was this guy before the zombie apocalypse? How or why did they rise from the dead?

I love love LOVE this short story. For 14 pages, the author packs in such raw emotions and detailed scenes. I was entranced the moment I read the second sentence. If you're wondering whether or not to read/download it, don't. This is an absolute necessary download for all libraries.

I will admit that I wished the author did expand more past the "feast" scene, but I understand why he didn't. The lack of vivid details just adds to the story (you'll understand once you read it).

I will definitely be on the lookout for more of this author's works.

I have to say as I was reading the first few pages I was thinking, here we go, nothing new here that I haven't read time and time again, but it's only a very short story so might as well finish it. Glad I did as this one adds an element to which I had never experienced before in a zombie apocalypse tale. It's probably not what you're thinking, I'm not going to give it away, but definitely recommend you read this. Hell Comes for the Hurried ends up being quite the memorable tale. It'll only take you about six or seven minutes to read.
