5.0 out of 5 stars Chilling.
The overall thrill that came from this segment in the saga was the possibility. This added to the intensity and created an experience that is second to none.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as the first season...
I've just finished watching the second season of Hell Girl and I've got to say that it might have been even better than the first one. Like the first season, it starts out very episodic in nature, but eventually the story gets going. The stand alone stories and the characters in this season seemed darker(and more interesting) than in the first. And we get to see much...

4.0 out of 5 stars Hell Town......, March 2, 2011

I've now seen every single Hell Girl DVD even Three Vessels and I can honestly say this is the best one of them all. Its story goes farther in its depictions, the things that happen frankly suprised me. And the amount of people willing to send someone to Hell for any reason is more clearly shown in this one.

The end is not disappointing, it was great. Even with the main character Ai showing her pain for the madness being involved, this is as I said the best one of all the Hell Girl DVDS out there now, period.

I've just finished watching the second season of Hell Girl and I've got to say that it might have been even better than the first one. Like the first season, it starts out very episodic in nature, but eventually the story gets going. The stand alone stories and the characters in this season seemed darker(and more interesting) than in the first. And we get to see much more of Hell Girl's servants and their backgrounds than we ever did in the first season. About halfway through this collection there's an episode that at first seems like a typical one from this series. But it turns out to be jump-starting the main story, resulting in chaos for the town of Lovely Hills. I don't want to say to much about the ending of the second season, but I enjoyed it very much. It even ties in the first season by bringing back some favorite characters.

My tv is only 32" and unlike most other reviewers, I listen to it through it's built-in speakers. So, I can't comment on the video or audio quality, but both seemed decent enough to me. 16x9 anamorphic, Dolby Digital 2.0. The music in this series is like the first season's, mostly haunting and quiet, fitting the mood of the scenes perfectly.

The first season of Hell Girl was one of a few series that initially got me hooked on anime. This season is just as good. I wouldn't exactly catagorize this show as horror, but it's definately fun. It's more serious than most anime shows I've seen, no chibi-drawings or exaggerated expressions to convey feelings. There is some humor, although very subtle.
This season is the first series I tried that wasn't dubbed in English. While I don't regret purchasing it, I can't change the fact that it would have been much more enjoyable(for me) in English, especially after seeing the first season dubbed. I don't understand all the anime snobs who hate dubs so much. Anime isn't like live action films, the Japanese audio is just as much of a voice-over as the English audio, so why do people prefer a language they can't understand? Actually, I noticed the characters' lip movements not matching the spoken words more in this series than in any dubbed show that I remember. I would like to give Sentai Filmworks credit for including some on-screen cultural notes(more reading?). They didn't seem critical to the plot, so it was beyond what was required.

I don't want this to be a sub vs. dub debate, since it's all personal preference. Hell Girl Season 2: Two Mirrors is a four star series, minus one star, if you prefer English audio.
