5.0 out of 5 stars A Few Review Quotes, February 11, 2005
This review is from: Hell On A Hill Top: America's Last Major Battle In Vietnam (Hardcover)
"All Viet Nam-related books and manuscripts that I have read-novels, histories, short stories and poems-have had some merit. Some were superb-well written, enlightening, touching mind, heart and soul. Ben Harrison's Hell On A Hill Top falls into this category. It is truly an impressive and epic work of historical significance." John M. Del Vecchio, Author of The 13th Valley

"Harrison's distinguished career as Army Aviator enables him to highlight with rare understanding the vital role of Army Aviation and Aviation Crews during the Ripcord campaign." Sidney B. Berry, Lieutenant General, US Army, Retired, Acting Commanding General, 101st Airborne Division during the Ripcord siege.

"Through his many research travels, trials and tribulations, Harrison finally captured and published answers to the questions many veterans have had in the back of their mind for years. I was surprised he got as much out of that `secret' society as he did, but not so surprised at their exaggerations and `spin.'" Marty Heuer, Author of Pioneers Of Ahnapee

"The included accounts from several helicopter crewmen were among the most arresting I have read." Lewis Sorley, Author of A Better War

I am often asked what Vietnam was like. Over the years I have given this response: "If you never had your ass in the grass and you blood in the mud, you couldn't possibly understand what it was like. If you have, then you know why it is not spoken of." If you are one of the lucky ones that never had to experience that god awful horror known as the Vietnam War personally, but you still have a desire to know what it was like, YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! Major General Benjamin Harrison's book will put you as close to the real action as possible without getting yourself soiled. His unique ability to describe what took place on that blood-soaked hilltop will chill you to the bone. After all, there is nothing like a personally guiding trip through hell than to be led by the Devil himself. General Harrison was there and his wonderful storytelling skill makes you feel like you are actually standing inside the command bunker and watching the whole battle unfold. The book then adds another level of terrifying surrealism to the whole story when he discusses what was going through the minds of the opposing forces. General Harrison, having personally interviewed the opposing Vietnamese general about the battle, gives a completely disturbing account of what the battle was like on "their" side. What was going through the minds of the "enemy" combatants. The book brings home the personal side of war as best as I have ever seen it done. For the first time I saw the enemy as I have never been able to see them before--as real people with families of their own, as people who had their own dreams shattered by a war that should never have been fought. This is a most wonderful dedication to all the heroes of the war on BOTH sides. Honor all the fallen who fought so bravely for what they believed in. BUY A COPY AND READ IT FOR YOURSELF. You'll be glad that you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! Gives a new meaning and greater insight, August 28, 2010

Well written, easy to comprehend, vivid, you feel you are there observing but immune to the REAL danger. I know, and knew some of the soldiers identified in the book. The book's for real and probably the best account of what actually happened.
