2.0 out of 5 stars Vapid; without liveliness or spirit; dull or tedious, April 3, 2010

This review is from: Hell Rides A Horse (Kindle Edition)
This was the first book I purchased for my Kindle and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I love westerns, sci-fi, supernatural, so the description seemed to fit the bill. It didn't. Save yourself some time and money and go read the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. You won't regret it.
I couldn't believe this was a published book. From start to finish it just wasn't polished. Just too many errors.
Beyond that it didn't pull me into the story, the world or the characters. I didn't have the time to care, it was so brief. Though I doubt it was the brevity that was at fault for my disinterest. The interludes about the antagonists seemed out of place took me away from the story and the characters I was supposed to care about. I've had to put down a book for literally months because of what an author has done to my favorite character(s). I didn't care here.
The most interesting thing I found in this book was the scene stolen right from the movie, The Outlaw Josey Wales. I was actually reading the book as I was watching the film and could not believe I had just read the scene I was watching on the TV. There were some cool ideas here, but nothing was fleshed out or had any depth to it.

I could go on, but I won't. I was a little misled by the positive reviews and needed to counterbalance them with another perspective. Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definatly worth reading, August 26, 2009
This review is from: Hell Rides A Horse (Kindle Edition)
This book was an interesting mix of genres. I was looking for a quick read for the beach, and this was it. The story was fast paced, the characters were well written and the authors did a great job creating a believable, frightening futuristic setting. The story follows the adventures of a lone gunman and a mysterious woman traveling post-apocalyptic America. Along the way, they face slavers, gunmen and the four horsemen.

This book was co-authored, and at times, I felt I was reading two separate stories. In a way, this actually worked, because the horsemen and our heroes are from two different worlds. The story does come together in the end and it leaves you with an interesting effect. The book is a great mix of fantasy and good old fashioned western adventure. If your used to longwinded fantasy, this may not be for you, but if your looking for a quick, fun read, take a chance and give this book a try, you will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick but good book, August 11, 2009

I finished this book pretty quickly but it was definitely a good read. It was fast paced and had a lot of action in it. The fight scenes were very descriptive and kept me reading. Almost made me feel like I was right there with Silas. In some ways I think it ended too quickly because I wanted to keep reading. I wanted to know more about some of the characters and what happened next to them. I'm hoping that they write another, adding more to the story.

It was definitely the right type of book for me. I really love fantasy and adventure books but I don't always want to sink my teeth into those 1,000 page books that the genre is known for. I'd much rather pick up something like this which was exciting and fast paced while having fantasy, adventure, and supernatural aspects to it.

Highly recommended!
