As always, Custis Long is on the hunt for some killers and gets his man, but that is just the beginning of this western yarn. Without giving away too much of the story, Custis ends up wounded and exhausted in Helldorado, where the most vicious outlaws have taken over the town. How the deputy marshall deals with this problem, being wounded and not at his best, is something you will have to find out by reading the book. If you are a Longarm fan, you will like this adult western yard. Rating:

This April 2009,edition of Longarm takes place in North Dakota in the dead of winter.What seems to be a difficult journey to Bismark to deliver "Bone" McClusky where the hangman and the undertaker are waiting to complete the life story of this despicable outlaw;turns into an even greater ordeal than he thought.

He rides into a sleepy little town Helldorado, for some relief from the storm;but the body hanging from a tree on the outside of town is a harbringer of what is to come.

We end up with a great Old West tale including everything we come to expect when we ride with Longarm.Gunfights in saloons,fast-action shootouts,shady characters and dealings of every kind,and even Longarm getting getting pretty beaten up before he cleans up things. In the end,Longarm is in no condition to continue his journey home,but his newly acquired friend,Anastasia,has just the place to take our hero and help him recuperate...and Marshal Billy Vail will just have to wait for his top man to recover and get back on the job.Meantime,Longarm will just have to make the best of the hand he has been dealt. Longarm will just have to consider that old adage,"It's a great life if you don't weaken,but who wants to be strong?"
