If you haven't seen them live . . .,

Between 1996 and 2002 I've seen Manowar live eight times, all in small clubs. Imagine that, German fans! They are without a doubt the loudest, most powerful and best sounding live band I've ever seen (and I've seen Metallica before they cut their hair). The album is a true testament to their power. When I got it (an import back in 1997) I brought it home and turned up my stereo as loud as the speakers could handle, sat back and let the magic flow over me. I was transported back to a gig, and it was perfect. This Cd has most of Manowar's best known tracks, runs almost two hours, and will leave your jaw hanging. Just remember, always play Manowar as loud as it can be, and buy the companion CD, Hell On Stage Live, as it contains some of the lesser known Manowar epics, and it actually sounds better than this one, if that can be believed. This is the definition of Heavy Metal.

One of the Best Live Albums I've Ever Listened To!,
By Dennis McMillan (Peoria, IL) - See all my reviews

This has got to be one of the best live albums I've ever listened to. I have to agree that Eric Adams vocals get drowned out alot. Scott Columbus has got to be one of the best drummers I've ever heard. A definite for any Manowar fan.

There's not really too much to be said about Manowar in a live setting. If you already know their music, simply imagine those great power metal anthems with the volume turned up to 11 and thousands of people at a time singing the cheesy metal lyrics. If you don't already know their music, well then get to steppin'! Go back and purchase all their studio albums. That's right, I said ALL of them, learn the songs and THEN come back here and listen to the classics in all their live glory. Hearing stuff like "Manowar," "Kings of Metal," "Hail and Kill," "Fighting the World," and so many others just rules it. And for me, it was a real bonus, because I DON'T have all the studio albums (I know, hypocrite), so hearing songs like "Spirit Horse of the Cherokee" for the first time was fantastic. BTW, "Spirit..." is one of the strongest tunes on the first disc. So all in all, this is a great representation of one of metal's all-time classic bands in a live setting. You can really tell they get off on their status as metal warriors and in the way they interact with the fans. Great live album. Get it.

Disappointed Manowar Fan...,
By Vincent (Spotswood, NJ USA) - See all my reviews

For starters I am a huge Manowar fan and I hate having to do this, but true metal fans would like to hear this instead of listening to someone lie for the sake of their band. Do not purchase this CD if you are planning on listening to Eric Adams's beautiful voice because you will not hear it on 95% of the songs. It's a shame but Manowar's pursuit of the loudest metal on Earth has backfired on this live album. The music is so loud (which we all like as Manowar fans) that it completely drowns out the vocals... Maybe it was a error in the recording or something like that but nevertheless I didn't care for the album. I enjoy lyrics and vocals the most when I am listening to music. I have seen Manowar 3 times now and they are still my favorite band, so don't get the idea that I am bashing them because I would never do that...Vsniper@aol.com

I LOVE MANOWAR SINCE 1983 WITH INTO GLORY RIDE, I WAS THIRTEEN AT THE TIME, LOVE ALL THEIR WORK, BUT THIS LIVE ALBUM IS A BIT DISAPPOINTING SINCE THE MUSIC IS SO LOUD THAT IT REALLY DROWNS OUT ERIC'S VOCALS, THE SONGS ARE GOOD BUT FOR THE OLD SCHOOL FANS I RECOMMEND HELL ON STAGE LIVE WHICH IS ON A NEXT LEVEL COMPARED TO THIS CD, AS I AM AN AVID COLLECTOR OF TRUE METAL THIS CD I ESSENTIAL FOR THE COLLECTABLE VALUE BUT THAT IS IT- I ALWAYS REACH BACK AND GRAB INTO GLORY RIDE AS THIS IS THEIR CLASSIC.

.....from the north to the south this is the first, loooooonngggg awaited live album by the truest of all metal bands: Manowar. Not just an album, but a rebellious collection of true metal grit. Two cds that are as loud as can be! Strap your speakers to each ear, be a man and listen to metal the way it was meant to be - so damn loud you'll be fifty percent death on the first note that's played! Whaow, "I've got my wheels, I've got my friends, were on the road again. We're all crazy, gonna ride untill we die", "Time to burn. You loosers never learn. No one controls our God Damn lives." This cds are completely live so you'll just have to put up with missing choruses (I never been to a Manowar concert, so I don't know if they skip certain choruses from songs like Carry On), guitars that drown everything, even Scott Adam's unbelievable stage voice. The best descriptions of this collection come from disc one's fianl track which is audiences and things that the band record in every city on every night, and not a song (rats!). As Adam's puts it: "And now you have been reborned in the fire of true heavy metal!" and when asked to tone it down by the sound police Manowar asks the crowd: "Do you want Manowar to back down?" naturally, the crowd screams its disapproval of such an action. Manowar don't back down from nobody, and this is a release that only the faithful can appreciate and understand. "The North Star always guides me. When winter skies are grey. And I wait for sign when all are one. I. Shall not betray. Calling at me. I'm waiting. When all are lead astray. Carry on. My Songs forever. Carry on. When I am gone. Carry on. Forever the day is bright. Forever Carry On!"ÿ

FOR TRUE BELIEVERS ONLY!,
This review is from: Hell on Wheels Live (Audio CD)
MANOWAR is the ONLY actual "heavy metal" band still inexistence on Earth today. They have the look, the sound, the attitude, and THE greatest vocalist (apart from Ian Gillan) for metal ever! Sadly tey never really caught on in the USA like so many other inferior bands have done in the past. This country really missed the boat (or winged chariot) on MANOWAR. Enjoy this live collection but seek out the studio versions because they are tremendous!

POSSIBLY THE GREATEST METAL BAND EVER,

Unfortunately, you can be a hard core metalhead and have never even heard of Manowar. Although they have a strong following overseas, very few people in the U.S. have grown to appreciate this band's unique metal style. But if you had been at Jackhammer's in Schamburg, Illinois on September 5th, you would know exactly what I'm talking about. It was the best metal show I have ever seen, blowing away the Metallica show I had just been to. This doulble live CD captures much of the energy that you experience from being there in person. The powerful vocals of Eric Adams, who has a metal scream rivaled only by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, and the incredible guitar work by Carl Logan make "Hell on Wheels" a metal lovers dream. My only criticism of this CD is that many of Manowar's best tracks were omitted and replaced with more popular and mainstream sounding songs. Manowar, even for hard core metalheads, may not be a band that you instantly appreciate after listening to only a few times. But if you give yourself a chance and play them on a regular basis, you will understand what true Manowar fans have known for years.
