5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Horror Rock
I think Rob Zombie has become a household word. Everyone knows he rocks. He's got fans ranging from black clad goths, head bangers, normal kids, even posers (unfortunately). He's one of the best theatrical rock acts out there, taking much influence from Alice Cooper. This, his debut is a wonderfully eccentric and experimental album. Many people simply call Zombie "Metal",...

Why did they bother to make an Edited version of Hellbilly Deluxe? Why did they bother to make an Edited version of Hellbilly Deluxe? The only swears are on the Song the Ballad of Resurrection Joe and Rosa Whore, which here is just titled the Ballad of Resurrection Joe. So you get one edited track! Count it, 1. Also the artwork is screwed around with. The Pentagram and the x on Rob's Forehead are removed, as well as artwork in the sleeve and no lyrics are given. The skull and Crossbones along the side are also gone. I purchased this by mistake a long time ago because it wasn't clearly labeled as a clean CD. that only infuriates me even more. This Edit is absolutely pointless and most of all, Stupid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy Weak Edited CD's!, July 12, 1999

I dig Rob. The man's music is awesome. But the edited version of this CD sucks and is not marked as an edit in the packaging. The blurred spots on Resurrection Joe make the track unlistenable. If I was scared about hearing bad words I would have bought a Celine Dion disc. I want to hear Rob, not Tipper Gore's approved manipulation of his work.

Many people simply call Zombie "Metal", but Metal is only one influence. There are industrial, electro, gothic, psychadellic, acid rock, rockabilly, and soundtrack elements as well. I don't think people give Zombie enough credit for being so experimental. Anyway, for those who think he is some kind of devil worshipping, evil destroyer of the souls of America's youth, I say this: I myself am a Christian. It irks me when I see pastors of all people going out and giving Christianity a bad name. DO you think people will even listen to you when you come out and attack offensively like this? The same goes for those protesting Marilyn Manson's concerts. Rob Zombie is not a satanist. If you don't see the tongue-in-cheek humor and irony in his lyrics, you're just blind. You might as well be protesting every horror movie and every halloween party that will ever be attended by our "mislead youth". It's all good, clean, spooky fun. Nothing more! Like I said, I'm a christian and I do not find anything subversive, satanic, or truly "evil" in this music at all. Just creepy, b-movie inspired rock & roll, and I think it's alot of fun. So stop putting more kids off to Christianity! Rob Zombie rocks!
Alice Cooper (who has been openly christian for 10 years now) thinks so too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great mix of darkness, music, catchy riffs and a zombies, April 28, 1999

Okay, so you've heard the word from Russia, you've heard what the church has to say, now its Rose Tender's turn (Thats me). First of all, who gives a damn what Rob believes? I don't even believe in the devil so whatever, but if Rob does believe in satan I'm sure he has his reasons to. Thats not important, whats important is that this is a good listen. It flows nicely and goes good in background if you want to hang out in your room or something. He's got a good flavor to his lyrics, and some of the songs are really good, mainly Living Dead Girl, Superbeast and Dragula. Then there is the instrumental "Perversion" which is also quite different. Here's to Rob for trying something solo and successfully being well over suck.

Hellbilly Deluxe is a groovy album to listen to!I have the unedited version of the clean album. The clean version is minus the pentagram and skulls on the side of the album cover...no big deal! The real change is track#10 The ballad of resurrection Joe and Rosa whore. They took out/muffled the curse word.Oh,and there is a little nudity in the insert.I would recommend this album edited or unedited your choice! My favorite song is "meet the Creeper"...it's really cool!

Rock on Rob...Hillery

This CD Rocks. His music is the bomb. my favorite somgs are Superbeast, Dragula, Living Dead Girl, Meet The Creeper, and The Ballad of Ressurection Joe and Rosa Whore. the guy talking how Rob is of the devil should know that religeous people would veer away from Rob and not even comment on him while others could listen to him.

3.0 out of 5 stars to reverend tomas gibson, October 24, 1999

reverend, i agrre with you that rob zombie is demonic, he may worship satan etc. but my god is a loving forgiveng god and i truely believe that he would forgive me for listening to this and liking it. just because someone LISTENS tto this stuff DOES NOT MEAN THEY BELIEVE IT! as for the CD, it great, but the fact that it is SO SHORT and he still needed two filler songs, brings its rating down. peace out, and remember- god loves you!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A True Rock Monster!!!, February 5, 2004
This review is from: Hellbilly Deluxe (Clean) (Audio CD)
Rob Zombie is a true rock monster! His style of music isn't for all tastes, and the lyrics might be offensive to some people. His music revolves around blood & guts, corpses, decomposition, and of course, zombies. Songs like Superbeast, Dragula, Demonoid Phenomenon, and Return Of the Phantom Stranger are excellent when played LOUD!!! I would encourage any hardcore metal fan to purchase the uncensored version of this CD, and NOT the edited version. You'll get a 24 page booklet with song lyrics and shocking comic-like photos. Even on the explicit version, Rob Zombie doesn't use much profanity. But he still jams in his own unique style of 'death' metal.
