My First James Axler Book - what a great read, excellent, September 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hellbound Fury (The Lost Earth Saga, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first read of a James Axler book. When I started to read it seemed that the characters had been around awhile and had a long history. I was concerned that I may have to read the first zillion books to understand the atmosphere of the story. But this was not the case, this book can be read as a one of, no need to refer any other book all that is needed for the story is contained within the book. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. The only criticism was the time travel content, I found it a bit overwhelming at times. But over all I loved it! I am patiently (not) waiting the next book ..... I am hooked..

Who wants to read a textbook?, May 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hellbound Fury (The Lost Earth Saga, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm really sorry to pan a book in a series I have come to like, but, as a lawyer who has to read altogether too many dry, hypertechnical documents a day, this was a real failure. I feel that the genre is ACTION first and foremost, and the complexity of this series is just simply getting in the way of the action. I am quite capable of achieving suspension of disbelief, and I don't need a textbook on the pseudophysics of time/dimensional travel to do so. Probably 80 pages of this work could have been directed to actions and adventure rather than trying to achieve an unneeded "scientific" basis for the way the characters get where they are going. I know Einstein says no going beyond light speed - maybe he is right but I still want to see Star Wars and won't care a bit about Einstein. Axler - its OK, we got to the new dimension - lets DO something there!!!!!

From the first page to the last, April 15, 1999

This review is from: Hellbound Fury (The Lost Earth Saga, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
It took me awhile to get my hands on this book and there's not much I can say about it which hasn't been said already. I thought "Iceblood" couldn't be topped, but along comes "Hellbound Fury" and changes my mind. It's excellent and entertaining from the first page to the last. Its disappointing that Deathlands can't seem to break out of the dismal "Mad Max" formula and have the consistent level of quality of Outlanders, but that's just an opinion."Hellbound Fury" is a terrific read.

I've been reading Outlanders since the beginning and it wasn't until I recently got online I realized I could comment about it. I want everybody to know how great this series is and this latest book is great, too. I cant find anything to complain about!!! It's got everything an action fan could ask for. I wish they'd make movies out of it!

Ashamed--Not!, April 8, 1999

This review is from: Hellbound Fury (The Lost Earth Saga, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
What could have been just another post-nuke series with super-studs shooting mutants is something you don't have to be ashamed of being caught reading. The first part of the Lost Earth Saga has gone beyond anything Axler ever did in either Deathlands or Earthblood. The charcaters are cool, the plot is riveting and the action scenes can't be beat. I congratulate him on creating Colonel Thrush, one of the most evil--but fascinating--villains to come along in quite some time. Now if he can just figure out a way to bring back Tara from Doomstar Relic, I'd be really happy. Here's hoping Outlanders is around for a long time to come!

Grand adventure, April 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hellbound Fury (The Lost Earth Saga, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Since the very first book in this series, the readers have been treated to one grand adventure after another and Hellbound Fury is the grandest one yet.So far, Outlanders has avoided most of the pitfalls which plague Deathlands or any on-going series. The characters continue to evolve and the stories are about a lot more than simple survival. And most importantly, at the end of every book I'm always hungry for more. Hellbound Fury really whets my appetite for the next installament in the trilogy.

Another winner!, April 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hellbound Fury (The Lost Earth Saga, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
While the Deathlands saga continues to swing between extremes of quality, the Outlanders series uncannily never seems to stray from the depth and quality the author first established in 'Exile to Hell'. After the mighty revelations of 'Iceblood', it might have seemed that the series had played its hand too early but rest assured there are still many unanswered questions! The alternate realities are superbly crafted and well realised, and provide some amazing insight into both the characters and the wider situation that they find themselves a part of. There are also some interesting developments between Brigid and Kane that provide some of the best scenes in the book, but I was disappointed slightly by the new spin it seemed to put on their relationship. Still, with the return of Col. Thrush and multiple twisted realities to explore, it looks like the Lost Earth Saga is going to be a winner for sure.
