As a fan of the original "Hellraiser" score, this one too doesn't let you down. Not only does it pay tribute to the original, but, it creates some pretty chilling atmospheres on it's own. Brilliant soundtrack! It was a mix of the first film and the sequel in one, which is cool, however I didn't particularly like the 'Highpoint' part of the CD, it broke the atmosphere that the Hellbound tunes had created, it just seemed pointless as Highpoint was far too nice music compared with that of the dark, brooding Hellraiser. Oh well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stands Alone, February 14, 2001
This review is from: Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Also Features Music From The Film "Highpoint" (Audio CD)
As a fan of the original "Hellraiser" score, this one too doesn't let you down. Not only does it pay tribute to the original, but, it creates some pretty chilling atmospheres on it's own. It's rare that you find a score that can stand apart from the film (some can't and it's their strength) but this one can. Working on a much larger scale, Young relishes the chance to create atmospheres which are at moments gothic, at moments amazonian, and at moments brilliantly unnerving (the 'Leviathon' track with it's booming horn and mumbling voices comes to mind). For any fan of loud scores this is a must own.

5.0 out of 5 stars stunning music I've never tired of hearing!!!!, March 13, 2001
This review is from: Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Also Features Music From The Film "Highpoint" (Audio CD)
This is perhaps the most grandiose and elegant, yet dark and unsettling music I've ever heard. Without even seeing the movie people can easily grow to love this! To me, almost Lovecraftian in atmosphere, you can listen to this entire score of music and still keep the mood with you long after you're turned off your player!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kick -ss!, May 11, 1999

The movie was excellent, and the music was even better! It's classical, but the haunting melodies added to the mystery of the movie. A good collection to turn on a blacklight and sit and think to. Get a lot of incence to burn and bring a friend to contemplate the movie and the meaning of life!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Big, dark, and strange score--I love it!!, December 16, 1998
This review is from: Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Also Features Music From The Film "Highpoint" (Audio CD)
I think that score of original 'hellraiser' also composed by Christopher Young is good horror score. But, score of 'hellbound' is also good. Its scale is much larger, darker, and stranger than original one... Especially, 'second sight seance' was very great becase of its loud and beautiful sound. I'm sure that you must buy this if you like horror movie!!

Wow, what a loud score! This is one of those black mass choir scores, on the lines of the Omen trilogy. However, this score is so much more evil and sinister, which is to its benefit. Nearly every track begins with some sort of a loud crash of instruments. The first track brings into mind a classic good vs evil struggle, while the sinister Leviathan track just eminates pure evil through its repetitive whooshing of a devil horn.(It sounds very dark and powerful) Some tracks are just as strange as they are spooky, for example the Hall of mirrors which features scary carnival music. This cd also features a few tracks from a lackluster 70's film. The music sounds a little flat, but the final track is pleasant. Over all, this cd is an excellent and scary ride. I reccomend this for fans of dark choirs or dark, scary music in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUSICA DE LA TIERRA.....Y MAS.., July 16, 2000
This review is from: Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Also Features Music From The Film "Highpoint" (Audio CD)
Christopher Young's score for "HELLBOUND" is a totally original recording. It is on a very grand scale & easily evokes a sense of something fantastic & mystifying. It is rare one hears a film score so original. If you saw the inferior film some of the pieces will have you recall its bloody images. A stand-out track would be track 4, a great track with heavy horns and smooth swooping strings. Another is track 8, this track has the sound that the 'Leviathan' made in the film, the great loud & booming horn is heard throughout much of the track, this is a nice experimental piece.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE MOST MAGNIFICENT HORROR SOUNDTRACK ON EARTH!!!!!!, October 17, 1999

How could anybody say no to this score? It arouses every emotion inside of you; a mixture of every type of horror track possible. The best tracks are Hellbound, Dead or Living, Leviathan, Headless Wizard, but hey, they're all the tops. If you want a soundtrack with the most feeling and fright possible, this is the one you want. Additional is a beautiful guitar solo at the end. The British sure know what symphony orchestras to pick. Too bad the movie itself was such a piece of crap.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best original score pieces ever, April 3, 2009
This review is from: Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Also Features Music From The Film "Highpoint" (Audio CD)
I saw Hellbound: Hellraiser II shortly after it was released on VHS. I had been entertained by the first Hellraiser movie, and I had the house to myself. I was 15 or 16, and I watched the movie alone in the middle of the night. While the first movie had entertained me, it hadn't really creeped me out much. Hellbound was a different story. I don't think the story-line or production on the second film was notably superior. Okay, maybe the production was higher quality, but... what really got me worked up was the fantastic score. There is an incredible amount of power and emotion behind the music that Christopher Young created for this movie. The songs seem to stir some dark, inner thing that wants to come forward... I don't know, it's just a very powerful piece of work. Even as a teenager I was very impressed by the score. I think it may have been the first soundtrack score that I even noticed as something that could have a life beyond the moments it represents in the film.

I wanted it.

I was very excited when at the end of the video tape there was a "commercial" for merchandise associated with the film, one item happened to be the soundtrack. The simple fact that I watched all of the credits at that stage in my life says something dramatic about the score. I was very excited, and wrote down all of the information. Then I realized that I had no way of ordering the CD. I did not have a credit card or a checking account. I would have to wait until I made it to a record store, and try to find it there. I looked for a long time at various record stores, asked owners to order it in etc.. but was never able to find it.

Then one day, in the late '90's, as I was tending bar at the Sundance resort (Robert Redford's ski resort/artist community/film workshop/everything) I met Christopher Young. He was at the resort for a film composer's lab. I told him how much I loved the film's soundtrack, and how hard I had tried to find it. By this time the CD was out of print, and Amazon had yet to begin selling used CD's and the like. Christopher Young told me that he would send me a copy. I was ecstatic, but reserved, because, frankly, I didn't think he would remember to send me a copy. A couple of months later... I received a package. Inside was this CD.

Yes, I still love the soundtrack. Yes, it's still very powerful, and emotionally charged, and a little creepy at times. Hall of Mirrors is one of my favorite tracks - there is something about disjointed carnival music with an underlying cacophony of hellish discordance that is just magic.

I never had the chance to thank Mr. Young, so, Christopher, if you're reading this... thank you.

Such a great disc.

Christopher Young should be put in the ranks with all the other great film soundtrack composers. Buy this cd to play on halloween or just to creep your friends out or just be amazed by the way the music is beautifully composed. Move over Danny Elfman and let Chrisopher Young through!!!!
