Editorial Reviews

Giant riffs, crowd moving grooves and monstrous vocals are the tools with which DROWNING POOL build triumph out of tragedy, steadily evolve without compromise, and remain true to their supporters with over a decade s worth of remarkable fortitude and attitude.
HELLELUJAH is absolutely the album their diehard fans demanded and the aggressive heavy rock world at large deserved.
The platinum-plus conquerors from The Lone Star State deliver their heaviest batch of hell raising anthems, each burning with fiery adrenaline destined to light the radio ablaze and ignite crowds into impassioned sing-alongs.
Only a few seconds into the album s first single, By the Blood, and it s evident that Hellelujah is the most aggressive, ambitious, and truly definitive Drowning Pool album since Sinner, the platinum platter that gave the world Top 20 rock radio hit Tear Away and the massively successful Bodies.

I pre-ordered this album and tried to post a review twice for this record, but amazon sighted as being to long or repetitive, so I'm gonna keep it simple.

A lot of old school DP fans may not want to hear this, but 'Hellelujah' is a better album than 'Sinner'. Most anyone who is an old school DP fan and loved 'Sinner' will know it will always be special. Dave Williams never got a chance to grow and evolve with the band he helped elevate to fame. That being said, after 4 follow up albums and 14 years it should come as no surprise that musically Drowning Pool has never sounded so good. The Guitar, Bass and Drums are brutal and unique sounding, delivering some excellent groove and straight up metal with a lot of memorable guitar pedal play.

Jasen Moreno(vocalist) returns on this album and is an even stronger presence than on 'Resilience'. His screams are stronger and more varied, he sounds like a monster on here. His clean singing is also excellent. When I first heard him on 'Resilience' I thought he was great, on 'Hellelujah' he is even better. I also enjoy Jasens fight song lyrics, I haven't heard a vocalist write better fight and or anthem songs. When not writing fight song lyrics, he also proves to be quite witty and thoughtful, while remaining brutal.

I felt 'Resilience' was a giant step in the right direction for the band and it seems that 'Hellelujah' took everything "Resilience' offered and blasted it to 10. If you enjoyed all of Drowning Pools albums, you will not be disappointed. If you haven't listened to them since 'Sinner', give this one a chance. If you loved 'Resilience', definitely snatch this record up. And, hell, if you've never listened to Drowning Pool but love straight up hard rock and metal give it a spin!

I have to say, I have not purchased a Drowning Pool album since Sinner. This, while different, is really, really good. Everything just gels on this release, from the guitar to scratchy vocals - it all works and works well together. I won't waste your time reviewing every song; just know 90% are worth the $10 you'll spend on the whole CD/download. Feels heavy (FFDP-ish) with some southern influence (a la Puddle of Mudd). Enjoy.

This album is absolutely amazing. It has been playing constantly since i bought it. Snake charmer and meet the bullet are probably my favorite songs on it. I just hope despite how heavy this is it gets the radio play it deserves around here. Album of the year for me.

In a day of electronic noise it's so nice to hear a band like Drowning Pool rock the way rock should be! Loud, in your face and lyrics that make you question some of life's daily beliefs! I had high expectations for this record, and it has not fallen short!! No speeding tickets from song #5 yet, but it will take the blame!

After Jasen and DP toured resilience, they choose to tour Sinner in its entirety. Eventually recording their second record. With Jasen and 5th for the band.

Because of touring the Sinner record you can tell it helped influence this record. From the song Sympathy Depeleted you can here a familiar Sinner intro. Jasen finally gets to show his talent here. Resilience was a great record but was not the record to show case Jasen's ability to sing and scream in levels we haven't heard in DP for years. This album shows he is the man for the job. The old logo on the album cover is a fine comeback symbolizing the return to form has finally come. I like all their records but I will admit this record is the closest to Sinner as a treasure in the catalogue.

First couple of songs sound great, but vocals are just trying too hard......give the screaming a rest, it gets old fast when you over use it. Guitar sounds great, CJ is getting better all the time and is a blast to listen to. Great album to crank up in the car-until the screaming wears it out.

With Resilience, I was starting to dig this new vocalist. Now on this new release, it seems that this vocalist is trying harder with more aggression in his singing. Most of the time, the vocals feel familiar to any Drowning Pool record and is a decent listen. The guitars are well done as well as the percussion. However in spots, the vocals seem to go too far and become irritating. This happens in Resilience too, but more so here and it has worn out its welcome.

The other editors seem to promote this as the next "Sinner", but there's just not enough that's familiar. This is just another case of taking a band's best selling album of all time, and trying to claim that the new album is a "return" to it. Sorry, but I'm not hearing it.

Ultimately, this is more disappointing than good. At first this album gets your fists pumping and your head banging, but gets irritating over time. Maybe a couple of tracks will grow on me, but as of right now, most of my excitement for this release is gone. If you prefer more "screamo"-type vocals you'll enjoy this. Just don't go telling everyone else that this is the next "Sinner"--that's a complete lie.
