This review is from: Hellenistic Philosophy: Stoics, Epicureans, Sceptics, Second edition (Paperback)
This textbook is a thorough introduction to the three schools of philosophy which dominated the Hellenistic era. Although the treatments of Epicureanism and skepticism are just as comprehensive as that of the Stoics, the latter was Long's specialty and the chapter is exemplary in its depth, particularly in the treatment of the perennial problem of the "phantasia kataleptike" (unshakeable cognitive impression), the crucial point which divided the three schools' epistemology.Very well-composed prose, a must for the beginner & expert alike.

This review is from: Hellenistic Philosophy: Stoics, Epicureans, Sceptics, Second edition (Paperback)
Great read! Easy read! It is written for everyday people. Beyond my expectations. The book is organized so well. No wasted verbage. Fast moving to the point writing. It is easy to go back and revisit info. The author's style is so easy to follow. The explanation of the histories and principles of each philosophy are extremely thorough with plenty of references. I found out everything I wanted to know about these philosophies with fairness to all sides & opinions over the centuries. Getting this book was one of my better choices.
