2.0 out of 5 stars Sloppy.
Well, they get points for conveying emotion and being fun to listen to in the car with the windows down in the summer and whatnot, and I suppose they've been pretty influential (though bands who cite them as an influence are usually pretty lame)... but this gets old really fast. It's really sloppy (some people like that, apparently), and there's just too much of an emo...

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC, March 27, 1999

Although it isn't their first release, I consider it to be... why? Because they used to kinda suck. This album is what happens when a band matures and reaches their potential. The singer used to be monotone and sing (if you can call it that) his high-schoolish poetry over music that didn't match the tone of the words. Hello Bastards shows he actually can sing - and well. The music has been refined as well. Anyway... this album is a complete 180. One of my favorite albums - and it will be yours too. Punk/pop-punk must-have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hello Bastards is a raw, adrenaline-filled punk delight., August 25, 1998

Lifetime's first release on Jade Tree Records is a keeper. The band still maintains their hardcore sound but has added infectious, melodic lyrics. The pure energy of the album is incredible and will leave the listener wanting more. The album did not receive 5 stars because it is only 22 minutes in length, but this is the best 12 song, 22 minute CD that a punk/hardcore fan can buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Great Great Great Great Album, March 1, 2005

So I started playing guitar when I was 14, figuring all the world needed was three chords a-la Green Day and weird lyrics a-la Nirvana. This continued on for about 3 more years, until I heard "Hello Bastards". I was sitting on the floor in Brandon's room, listening to Pet Shop Boys and Pull-Outs records, when he took the needle off the "Skip-O-Matic" record player he had and said "hey, this band's pretty cool, check it out" or something along those lines. From that point on, my views towards writing music completely changed. I realized punk can be multiple chord progressions, each one never repeating itself... vocals didn't have to be screeched as loud as possible... wait, you can PALM MUTE a power chord??? What!!! I hereby give full credit to Dan Yemin for teaching me how to really play guitar and Ari Katz for instilling some poetry and emotion into what I say when I play.

Somewhere in between old school and pop punk Lifetime has developed a unique, underground sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST ALBUM EVER OF ANY GENRE OR MUSIC STYLE, May 4, 2004

first of all Flesheater is gay for saying that this is sloppy...its punk -- deal with it you more hardcore than thou poseur. Now, this is the best album ever. Ari Katz's fervent moaning/singing style drips with his emotions and he weaves his words in and out of Dan yemin's guitar riffs in a way to capture the listener. People who hate all the mainstream emo crap that is being marketed today and all the poeple who love underground hardcore will love this cd. Dan yemin, the guitarist from Lifetime, was also in Kid Dynamite and now sings in Paint it Black, so check them out as well.
