Finally!!!!,

This review is from: Hello, My Name Is Mommy: The Dysfunctional Girl's Guide to Having, Loving (and Hopefully Not Screwing Up) a Baby (Paperback)
I used to be a listener of Bob and Sheri when I lived in South Carolina. In 2001, I moved to Rhode Island and it was bye-bye Bob and Sheri. Oh how I miss listening to them in the mornings. I was so excited to learn that Sheri wrote a book. It lived up to every expectation. I just got it in the mail yesterday and I can't put it down. It is blunt, humorous and gives practical advice. A must have book for couples who want to have kids. Thank you Sheri, and what can I do to get a RI station to play your show in the morning??????????

the truth about pregnancy and beyond,
By worm critic "worm critic" (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews

Finally a pregnancy book that isn't all roses and tells you the truth. I had ordered a bunch of pregnancy books right when we found out we were pregnant and after a rough 7 months I ended up defacing the smiling, happy pregnant women on all the covers. Not with this book. It is very funny and still informative. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is having a challenging pregnancy or is just a little nervous about what to expect when baby arrives.

Mommyhood isn't easy, but Sheri helps Moms feel the fun!,

Moms work hard at mommying, and Sheri's book is a must read for every woman ever called "Mom." The honesty and humor she uses to describe aspects of pregnancy, labor and new motherhood will appeal to hopeful moms, new moms and not-so-new moms. Sheri's book, a journal of sorts, won't stop anyone from becoming pregnant, but is a fun resource for those in the Hello, My name is Mommy state of life! Looking forward to Sheri's next book on Toddlerhood!?! PS: My fifth child is adopted. Pregnancy is hard work!

She is much more entertaining than she comes across here,

I like Sheri and looked forward to her book. But this was disappointing. I could not relate to it even vicariously, and it left me with a bad feeling. I didn't keep my copy.
I would highly recommend her radio show and her blogs over this (maybe she is more effective in a shorter format?)

Stick With the Radio Show, Or Use the Library Instead,

This review is from: Hello, My Name Is Mommy: The Dysfunctional Girl's Guide to Having, Loving (and Hopefully Not Screwing Up) a Baby (Paperback)
I'm not that impressed with this book. I, too, listen to Bob & Sheri in the morning, and I've always enjoyed Sheri's view and the way she gets her point across. So when I learned that she wrote a book, I checked my library (no luck - they're very slow getting new releases), and then bought it while on vacation for my long airplane ride. The thing about Sheri's radio show is that she's funny, but a lot of it is in the delivery. Her book is exactly like her show (she writes the way she talks); only it doesn't come across very well in writing. And that's not good reading, either. She touches on the basics of pregnancy and having a newborn, and I agree with a lot of what she says, and can relate to her stories. But I don't get who a "Misfit" is, exactly. First she describes a Misfit as a woman who had a horrible childhood, or bad role models growing up, or something awful. But within the meat of her chapters, it seems that a Misfit if Every Woman (news flash: not every woman had to visit her parents in jail growing up, but we still have the same worries about pregnancy and birth that MOST women have!). If you're as much as a control freak as you say you are, Sheri, you're reading this review right now (hi!), so don't stop here. I'd love to read more about radio life. My favorite parts of your book were the true-life stories about how you were treated and the things you experienced (comments from callers, getting sick in the bathroom where your co-workers butt just sat, pumping milk through a two-song set). I urge you to write a book ABOUT your job and how you juggle a family... I've heard your newest baby on air before (in the background); tell us how you were able to get that kind of privilege. Help the rest of us have the same perks you enjoy. You are helping introduce that kind of lifestyle into the work world, so keep it up.

Don't even want children, but still thought the book was great!,

I picked up this book only because my favorite radio talk show host, (Ms. Sherry Lynch), of all time had written it. I have no intentions of getting pregnant any time soon, if at all, but still found this book interesting and fun to read. Sherry does a great job of explaining what pregnancy is really like, because it is true that women that have never experienced it have no idea what they are in for. I learned many new things about the female body, for example she explains in detail how you can tell when you are fertile or not, without using a test of any kind.
I would recommend this book to anyone, even men! I found myself telling my boyfriend about all the little tid bits that I read about from the book. I think Sherry did a great job of letting clueless people in the mystery of pregnancy, with humor and language that is easy to understand. Thanks Sherry!

Mom approved!,

I recently got a copy of Sheri's book for my mom who grew up in a dysfunctional childhood -- she too thought she was going to screw up me and my sister but that hasn't happened. After talking to my mom on the phone recently... she mentioned how much she could relate to the issues Sheri has gone through and enjoyed her writing style. With Sheri being a leading radio talent... I wonder if she has considered doing a recording for Audiobooks. In summation... Sheri's story would make a great Lifetime Channel movie.

Sheri carefully journaled her thoughts and feelings during pregnancy and new mommyhood. The honesty and humor in Hello, My Name is Mommy will delight any reader, but will truly speak to pregnant women, new moms, and not-so-new moms! After reading Sheri's book, don't say she didn't warn you about the nitty gritty involved in earning the title Mom. However, the message that becoming MOM is a life-altering experience in so many ways shines through the sleeplessness and leaky breasts Sheri writes about. A perfect read for anyone who has ever been called Mom, this from a mother of five little ones: 9, 8, 4, 2, & 1. I MADE time to read this book!

If you're a new mom or about to be, this is a full on real life experienced mom who tells it like it is! I totally get where she was coming from. I listen to Bob and Sheri every day and love loved this book even if I had not been a big fan! This is a MUST READ for every new and pregnant mom!

A Perfect Fit!,

This review is from: Hello, My Name Is Mommy: The Dysfunctional Girl's Guide to Having, Loving (and Hopefully Not Screwing Up) a Baby (Paperback)
This is one of my favorite pregnancy/motherhood books! The first time I read it (yes, I've read it more than once in the past month) I laughed out loud the entire time. Sheri has a great ability to talk about serious matters in a lighthearted but helpful way. You won't find a four page list of essential layette items or a step by step guide to changing a diaper but this book has so much more to offer. It will help you discover some pretty profound things about yourself as a woman and a mom, especially if you feel that your own parents fell somewhat short in raising you. It will also help prepare you for the experience of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. I definitely recommend!
