The other commenter on this book seems to take life too seriously.

Both my husband and I went to Cal and I currently work for the Cal Alumni Association in Alumni House. Sure, Oski's route to Memorial Stadium isn't the most direct, but who cares? And, he doesn't look exactly like the Oski mascot, but who cares? It's close enough, my son (19 months) love the book and loves to point out Oski. I'm actually impressed by the number of buildings it points out, it mentions the Cal Band (even calling it by its correct name), and shows Oski's jaunts around campus.

The drawings of the people are artistic and I think that's fine. I like that the professor is female, and I like that there are various races of people throughout the book.

If you went to Cal, it's fun, and you'll enjoy reading it to your kids.

GO BEARS!

This is one of few books that I truly regret ever buying. Both my husband and I went to Cal and were hoping this book would be something nice to share with our kids. Boy, were we ever wrong! The story basically follows the school mascot around campus, visiting some notable sites and ending up at a football game. The pictures were crudely drawn - on some pages Oski looks rather creepy. The coloring on the different flesh tones on people are downright racist. Anyone vaguely familiar with the Berkeley campus would know that the path taken from the Greek Theater to Haas Pavilion to Memorial Stadium in the book was written by someone who's never been on the campus because the Greek Theater and Memorial Stadium are on the same side of the campus while Haas Pavilion is on the opposite side of the campus. I would think that other books like this written for other schools would have been done in the same shoddy way. I don't normally write reviews for books, but this was so poorly put together, that I just felt compelled to tell anyone interested to please save their money.

I LOVE this book. I am a California Golden Bear through and through, and this book is just darling. I bought it for my nephew when he was about four. He liked it so much it was the subject for his FIRST EVER book report.

The art is cute, the story very simple, but it's got a lot of spirit that's well expressed to very young readers. Go Bears!

I almost never write Amazon reviews. But this book demands love. Goodnight, Oski!
